Autocross?

anyone do it? It looks like fun.

the group around here seems to do it in big open parking lots, so im tempted, as theres nothing to really hit. Id be willing to do some suspension upgrades (another topic) if its worth it. just wonder what the word was about it, if it was worth even doing with a ty.

Done it at nats, and locally. Fun no matter what you drive

It's a ton of fun. We'll be doing it at Shindig next weekend, and I'll get some more video of both inside the truck and some unique shots with the gopro cam.

Auto crossing is a blast. I have done a fair amount of it, but not in a syty. I think it could be fun in any vehicle. I usually am in my Suby, but I used to auto-x in my camaro, now that was some tire smoking fun. I have driven a 2001 firebird with suspension mods and slicks, and boy did that car hook. I know tons of guys who whoop on there daily driver econo boxes. There is a class for everyone. I knew a guy who did quite well in his class with a $600 honda and some particular but cheap mods. I always wanted to grab a banged up miata and have some fun in that.

Went to a local one and had a blast. Most of the people there actually knew what a syclone is. the truck got alot of attention.

stock other than 2" drop blocks in the rear with caltracs and the torsion bars tweaked down some. KYB Monomax shocks.

Ive always wanted to do that coilover conversion, and do something with the sway bars. Im going to have to do some research

Same, 2" drop blocks in rear but I used a factory ZQ8 rear sway bar of a 2000 s-10. Front suspension was stock. The truck far exceeded my driving skills, I had to get over that urge to go as fast as I can and learn to take it smooth. Smooth is fast!

The only autox I could find around here wouldn't allow trucks because of insurance reasons :tdown: I'd love to try it

No trucks is BS. If the event is run by SCCA rules our trucks (and many others) are specifically listed under their appropriate classes. I'm not certain but a completely stock truck is E street I think and a modded one is F street prepared. We run with F-bodies, V8 BMW's and some Vette's. I've also run with BMW X5M and Mercedes ML55.

IIRC, NE Div SOLO II does stuff in your area (Lime Rock Park IIRC) and they're SCCA sanctioned. Might be worth looking at their schedule and seeing what's close. Hell, I drive to Jacksonville, Atlanta, and Chattanooga to race several times a year and we have a local SCCA club.

well, i went and raced my cobalt ss at a auto x event yesterday and it was a blast, I won my class (G stock) as i was the only one to enter a car into that class, but i was proud none the less. but, it makes me feel like working with the suspension on my ty and running those kinds of races would be fun, and worth the investment. I would like to stay in the f-stock class with my ty so i have to see what i can do for mods, as i am limited if i want to stay int eh class, but i gotta do something about stiffening up the suspension, getting rid of the role, better brakes would be good, and i should prolly think about what i can do to keep the intercooler and trans cooler for the longer runs (aprx. 80 seconds?)

i see that thats the part where it says no modifications to the engine programming is permitted, i dont see much about transmissions...such as the addition of a cooler, my guess is none allowed. the use of bushing was kinda funny, it said i could use any type composed of any material for the front sway bar (which could be any sway bar i wished, as long as it didnt perform any other function, such as diminishing lateral moment, or require the modification of the vehicle other than that of drilling mounting holes) but not on any other part of the car, I believe they have to be of stock nature and material type. looked like if i touched the rear sway bar i was doomed.
