Anything more for reliabilty?

So far i have the following moifications installed (or installed next damn day i get off).

Tune up kit
160* thermo
hotwired ic
johnson pump
rerouted ic lines
walbro 255 fuel pump (not yet)
billet afpr (not yet)
3 pillar gauges
hard pipe with hks ssqv bov
atr exhaust (not yet)
2" blocks/ lowered torsion bars

Is there anything else i should do for better reliability? I want this truck to last for a long time and i want to start off right with only 31k on the od.

A laptop and Datamaster.
Then do a LOT of reading and learn what you are looking for. I'd say every Syty out there that is driven under boost needs a regular checkup. If I haven't had my truck on DM recently I am a but nervous under boost.

Funny how a good tuned truck can run like shit after a few months

if you live anywhere it gets cold in the winter, I would ditch the 160* stat and go with a 180*. I finally did after about 3 years, truck is much happier and so am I since it actually allows for decent heat inside the truck.

Do they salt the roads when it snows in Jersey? They salt the hell out of them up here, so everything rusts out REAL fast. Toys stay in the garage during the winter. :-?

I tell ya they salt the sh*t out of them here too. Unfortunatly my Yukon is being tied up till my little brother gets his truck fixed. I just give it a good bath twice a week and power wash the undercarraige with a soap solution.

Yeah, the love dumping salt in NJ, or at least the parts I've lived in. I actually ended up next to a salt truck at a light today in my brand new daily driver, and I could see the spreader wheel spinning. I was furious about him spraying crap all over my truck until I realized that the hopper wasn't actually open. I probably won't be so lucky next time.

re-route/replace purple wire to starter. heat shield it too.

it might eventually get fried and you'll be stuck somewhere unpleasent like me.

i've also had the starter and alternator crap out on me at bad places. so keep on eye on those...

yep. I try not to drive my truck much in the winter anymore, usually Jan, Feb, Mar its just parked unless my daily driver pukes or something. My Ty was my daily driver for the winter of '00 and some of '01, but now my ZR1's are all crappy and pitting so I try to limit my winter driving now.

You may also want to consider the following relatively low-cost mods:

- An auxillary transmission cooler; remote transmission filter; larger fluid pan
- Alchohol injection to raise octane and lower intake temps

Probably the most important factor in SyTy reliability is your ability to restrain the desire to romp on it at every opportunity, particlularly when its not tuned/running properly. Good luck!

heat wrapping the starter wires is a good one too, to help keep the purple solenoid wire and the power cable down there from taking on a lot of heat damage.

a good alternative is one of the mini starters that will allow you to keep the wires away from the exhaust manifolds all together.
