Anybody in the Port Huron MI Area??

Im originally from Port Huron, and here lately have been thinking about moving back up there, im not real fond of the Texas heat, and actually miss the snow in the winter and actual change of seasons, althoght the thought of salt on my ride doesnt sit well.

Anyways, i just wanted to see how many Sy/Ty peeps were in the area, and if there was any regualar meets anywhere close by.

Like i said above, i have always wanted to move back up there, i was just up there a few weeks ago, for my G-pa's 80th B-day and we went out on the Huron lady tour boat, the owners of the boat are neibors of my G-pa and man was the water blue. Youll never see water that blue in Texas.

Just not sure what the economy is liek up there, i know the reason my family moved away in 1980 was becasue there was no work, but i know the economy has changed alot since then.

Ive looked online at a few different websites and there are alot of jobs around there, its a big move, and to be honest it kinda scares me, but on the other hand something tells me that this is something i need to do.

Thanks for the reply, maybe having soem local Sy/Ty's around will envourage me to get my truck back on the road.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to move to MI unless they had a secure job already lined up. MI has the highest unemployment rate in the country right now. Its not the easiest place to make a living, but if you can manage to make it through this slow period it could pay off when work picks back up. The problem is there is no telling when it will turn around. I like living here, but if it were to stay this way or get worse, I could see myself moving back out to the Pacific NW real quick. Just out of curiosity , what type of jobs did you see that were available, because there is nothing in the Detroit area.

Well i thought it was on this forum, but it must have ben another somebody posted a link to a Michigan Works type website, but i cant seem to find it again. It depends on what kind of job your looking for, but there were quit a few mechanic jobs, althought im trying to make a career change and get away from turning wrenches for a living. Just not sure what i can change to. I did see an entry level CNC machinist job at a place called Michgan Production Machine that probably pays low to start, but if that industry is like it is here, after a few years you can make some serious money well over 18 bucks and hour+ and usually lots of overtime, only problem is around here there is no entry level jobs,i mean nobody will hire you fresh and train you.

I need to find that website again, id like to apply for that job, but it said to apply in person, and thats a long drive to apply in person.

There are lots of CNC machinist jobs around, but rarely will anyone train for it. Mechanic positions pop up frequently enough, but most places want you to have your MI state certifications already.

Yeah, i would love to get my foot in the door doing CNC machine work, becasue once you get someyears under your belt, and can program the CNC machines, you can almost go anywhere you want and name your salery.

Im trying to get away from mechanic work, tired of the flat rate and one week your so busy you can tget it all done and the next your siting on your butt all week starving. I need to get some contact info for Michigan Production Machining, i want to send them my resume and see if i can maybe get my foot in the door before driving all the way up there.

Besides i have some personal issues i have to take care of in the next few months so i cant go anywhere till then anyways.
