another newbie question

Im kinda new to the sytys so I have a few questions about my chip.. Are atr pitbull chips any good?? what are there draw backs? . My brother has had many different GNs and used the pitbull chip with good results but what about the sytys? Should I just stick with the stocker chip for now? I beleave that I have the mods needed to run a different chip covered.. I have upgraded the fuel pump, afr, coil, wires, kn and a few others but nothing major.. also the pitbull chip has the letter A on it if that matters at all.


Oh and no I didn't buy this chip .. it was included with the purchase of the truck.

My truck had a Pitbull chip in it when I bought mine. The ATR chips are an improvement somewhat, at least they still kept the knock retard unlike others. You will be ok to run that chip without any problems but you will be better off to go to the Ultimate, another aftermarket chip (Dig)or get the stuff to burn your own, just as long as you get the truck in good running order as it is now. Im not saying that your truck is running bad now but you just want to make sure that everything is up to par with datamaster or diacom.

Thanks for your insite on the matter.. I was concidering getting an ultimate but don' t have the cash flow for that right now with xmas and all. My truck well it runs great right now.. I pounded the pedle a few days ago and got 16lbs of boost out of it.. is stock chips surpose to do that I thought they had a boost limiter on it.(and no im not going by the stock gauge) Any how thanks again.

I understand the $$ problem. Yeah, you may see 16 pounds of boost with a ATR or stock chip for that matter. 16 pounds really isn't too bad. If you want to fix it a couple of turns on the wastegate actuator arm should fix your problem, but IMO 16#s over 15#s probably wont hurt you on your current setup. Are you running a datamaster or diacom and seeing what your knock retard is?

yeah I like the 16lbs too but no Im not running a scan tool yet.

I didn't have very much luck with the ATR chips. When I had it on my truck I had a shit load of knock. We are talking over 8 at times. Swapped it out after the first run. Put the stocker back in and was running 2-3degrees of knock retard. My expirience wasn't too good with them. I no longer have it as a different program has been burned on it.

The Pitbull can be a good chip but the drawbacks are nasty boost spikes when you nail the gas. The Pitbull's boost control just sets the wastegate duty to 75% and leaves it there, even if your boost goes thru the roof. Boost level is set by the wastegate rod length. Once you are under throttle, the Pitbull boost control is pretty astonishing but the 2-bar fueling limit (cant properly add fuel over 15 PSI) and the dangerous boost spikes are "showstoppers" as far as I'm concerned.

Not only that but you can't disable your EGR with this chip without getting annoying Check Engine Code32 codes.
