after 6 months of searching I picked up number 411 today. It was a long way home (100 miles). It drove on the freeway great. bouncy but hell it handles good. New front end is nice and tight. I have a few questions. First It idled fine when cold but when I got home the idle was going up and down. In park it was fine only in drive. What should I check fist. next it has a atr chip with a key that has leds (red and green) and about 5 or so positions. I know its for the computer programs but how would I find out what is what. last it has a greddy boost control. Say low and high bost with knobs. any info on settings. Thanks guys. I know I have a lot of learning to do but with time and cash I should figure it out. I will get a cable and a program for my laptop to do some tuning soon. thanks everyone

Re: Another new SY owner

I live in san jose. 50 miles south of San Francisco. It has 91k+. The truck looks great. Origional pant that shines. Only a chips on the hood from rocks. I could not find any rust. Has the origional tonneau cover in perfect shape. Except for the idle thing it drove great. The wastegate exhausts more then I remember from my friends ty??? has good power. I had a 300hp 2000gtp running 15lbs of boost. Low end the truck will kill it. High end they feel the same. I was mid 13's in my gtp. This truck should be low 13's easy. here are the list of mods that were done. Right now not looking for more speed till I rebuilt the engine sometime next summer. Looking for some maintenance mods or reliability ones. I will do some searches but there are so much info here I will take me weeks to read it all. Aldl cable is next so I can see whats going on. What is a good setup and program? I was looking at this one. http://www.aldlcable.com/sc/details.asp?item=aldlobd1 thanks

1) New ATR Exhaust with high flow cat.
2) ATR auxiliary heat exchanger
3) ATR chip
4) 180 degree theromostat
5) Kenne Bell Intake
6) Fuel Pressure regulator
7) Fairly new injectors
8) Full tuneup done about 5K miles ago including plugs, wires, coil, cap, rotor, fuel filter, idle solenoid, and MAP sensor
9) New front end rebuild. All Moog parts used. Parts replaced were: upper and lower ball joints, pitman arm, idler arm, and control arm bushings. Also had the torsion bars adjusted.
10) Rebuilt transmission. Transmission was rebuilt by the owner of PTS Extreme Transmissions in Sacramento, CA
11)greedy boost control/ with pillar guage

For your idle trouble look for a vacuum leak. Maybe a line came off, otherwise, wait and see what your data logging has to say. Also, Welcome

Re: Another new SY owner

being a new Sy owner and first time running a turbo car I have a few questions. The car has a boost controler. Greddy with a low and high boost adj. Not sure how to set it.? The truck under hard boost will hesitate and lose power at 3500 rpm. Fells like its lossing fuel. The aftermarket boost guage is a greddy that has low number 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5... rated in kg/cm2. is .5 actualy 5 pounds of boost?? The stock guage pegs out over 15lbs but the greddy guage won't go past 1.0 . Thanks for any help.

Congratulations.

1.Never drive hard under 1/4 tank of gas truck will out accelerate gas tank causing a lean condition

2. If you were using A/C or Defrost the A/C Comp will cycle on and off at idle.

3. Set fuel pressure at 45 lb at idle with vacuum hose plugged, than reconnect vacuum hose.

4. If the fuel pump has not been change replace it with a higher capacity pump from RPM or other's here on the board. The stock pump is running at 75 to 80% duty cycle.

Re: Another new SY owner

whether irs been just recently done or not... i would go ahead and do a full tune up... and make sure you get the correct plugs!

right before i bought my sy, the guy told me he just had a full tune up done etc... a month later i go to swap the plugs and sure enough they were the wrong ones. go through all info in the FAQ. and like earlier stated, hit up Mike Lee at RPM and get a new fuel pump. It's like $100 and change and a total pain in the ass to install, but its worth it to have that security of knowing it can keep up with your boost, unlike the stocker.

good luck and welcome!

Welcome. That's cool, another SyTy in the Bay Area. I'm Steven and I've got a 92 Ty. I live in Santa Clara, pretty close to Valley Fair Mall. I'd love to see your truck sometime.

Re: Another new SY owner

another question. I had an alarm installed today. I notice that while he was working on it the brake lights were on. He said the headlight switch was bad. When he moved the wires in the back the brakelights turned off. I ordered a new headlight switch. My question is is this probably the problem? does the brakelight run through the headlight switch? Thanks.

Re: Another new SY owner

Talked to the previous owner. it has a 255 walbro pump. Got it running good. Except for it needs a new battery soon. Man I love this truck. Had a 3000gt pull next to me and honk his horn tonight. I looked at him and said" is that a vr4" he said no. I said its not even worth the gas then. The light turned green and he stomped it. I cruzed it up to the next light. he honked again. This time he took off again so I punched it a bit. Got up to 50 and he was about 10 cars behind me. I waited untill the next light. He looked at me with a funny look. I said "and that was a non-boost launch with 400lbs of tools in the back." I guess that was my first kill. was not worth it but he was a 17yr old punk kid.

Re: Another new SY owner

ok I had a wird thing happen today. No rain so I took it out to reset the boost controler. After I was done I went to the bank, get gas and to pick up pizza. I was waiting for pizza for about 25 min and when I wanted to restart the truck it died twice. It would idle for a second and die. I had to rev to 1500 rpm for about 10 seconds. After that it idled normal on the way home but when I would give it gas it would sound like it wanted to die for a split second then it would take off. First time it did this and have yet to start it again. It has a full tank. btw I am using the stock computer right now.

Re: Another new SY owner

Did you remove the fuses to reset the 'puter when you swapped? If you don't have a FP gauge then get one and see what FP is doing. FP might be to high or low. I believe you'll want to start with approx 40 psi min at idle with the line to the AFPR disconnected.
