again on the how to make low turbo turbo light work.

I am teh kingpin!
OK, a few weeks ago we talked about how the low turbo coolant light doesn't
function as delivered OEM. I did some research, and installed the
low-coolant module as used in 88 Corvette. The light now functions as
intended. Plus there is a 2 second 'bulb test' on power-up, similar to the
antilock light.

You will need the following:
P/N 22533547 Module 17.00 wholesale
P/N 12117360 Connector Pigtail. 23.00 wholesale

I located it next to the fuel pump relay. I secured it with a tie-wrap to the
FP relay. I made the wire connections in the big harness that goes over the
top of the brake booster. The installation took about an hour, not including
the 'research.' I've done that for you. <grin>

The module and plug pins have letters. Connect as follows:

A Hot with Ign. Splice into the Pnk/Blk wire that goes to the A/C relay
that's next to the FP relay.
B Not Connected
C Ground. There is a splice in the black wire that the 3-wire plug to the
IC pump and sensor goes into. I made this connection here, and
re-taped the splice.
D Not Connected
E&F Cut the green wire on the engine side of the 3-pin connector.
E Is the output to the light. Splice 'E' on the green that goes towards the
engine.
F Is the sensor. Splice 'F' to the green that goes towards the sensor.

The wires on the pigtail are all white. I got the polarity backwards on pin A
& C, and ruined my first module. Double-check the connections before turning
the key on.

Assure proper operation as follows: Turn key to ignition. Low turbo coolant
light should illuminate briefly, and go out. Leave key on. Disconnect sensor,
or 3-pin connector. Light should come on, and boost cutout relay (over
distributor) should click. Reconnect sensor, light should go out.

Easy project, and for 40.00 your low turbo coolant light will actually be
functional. If anyone needs assistance with this, I'll be glad to clarify if
needed. Just let me know.

i just found this again while starting a new project (SMC low alky light going to turn on the low turbo coolant light). good info to have.

Actually IMO, the best part of this is the boost cutout, setting boost back to base, provided you are using stock solenoid control.

To make it work with the alky, you need to find out the operation of that sensor.. My guess is that it is isolated, and is a good ground if fluid is present (water/coolant conducting electricity, or ground, to the chassis). If no fluid present, no ground.

So in theory
low coolant sensor -
full coolant - good ground
low coolant - no ground

alky-
low alky - 12v (illuminates the LED in the SMC module)

Should be able make this all work with a regular relay, have the 12v from the alky low level trigger the opening of a circuit to ground from the low coolant circuit (if everything I have above is correct).

Yeah Steve is a super nice guy to deal with.
I bought my setup used and he called me back on a Sunday on a holiday weekend to discuss my problem.
He is warrantying the burnt pump and sending and updated wiring harness, cashola nada=free.

I give it to dubb to come up with the idea to stuff it in the center console and now to hook up to the Low Coolant light...

I am not worried about cutting boost, just turning on the idiot light.
Steve says the sensor sends a ground back to the - side of the LED when the alky is low. Forgot to ask which wire but it wont be difficult with a meter.

Does the Low Turbo coolant light have a circuit run somewhere already, or is t just a dead bulb? Thats where I am looking into next.
Soon as someone comes by with a digicam I'll get some pics of my console.

I know super old thread, but trying to hook-up the low coolant light to the alky sensor. Appears my set-up is backwards compared to what's listed above:rant:
Can someone confirm what's listed above is correct as mine is opposite?
I know if I hook up a relay I can make it work just want to make sure on how it's supposed to be?

Thanx :)

Isn't your Ty "92 #331"? Read the signature in the opening post. the
author performed these mods to 92 #331. so that's why your's behaves differently. You should find the module"tiewraped
to the fuel pump relay". It was there when Dave delivered the Ty to you in 2009. Its probably still there.

It is one of a few if not the only Ty with the low coolant light hooked up on it. Are you sure you want to use it for your low alky light? You could install a separate light for the alky and have both.

Re: again on the how to make low turbo turbo light work.

From what I understand in the first post, if you wire this up if you have alky and you run low on coolant 'alky' it will reduce the boost?? If so that is cool as it will help you no blow on engine..... I don't have alky installed yet but when I do, if this works I will install this also.

All I can say is WOW!!!

I did read the first post and didn't realize it was Dave who posted it and that was MY truck, didn't read all the way down. Knowing what I have and how it's wired I think I can make it work now knowing it has this. I would prefer to have the boost drop if my tank does go low!!

Thanx

It is very easy to miss that the info was about your truck. It looks like that was a re-post of Dave's info by another member.

It is cool that you have the low coolant warning working on your truck.
