ac vents????

i remember some one talking about their as vents not working and i was wondering what was the reason it stoped i know it was dealing with the vaccum hoses or something could someone tell me they what they did to get their vents to work it only come out the defrost vent and i can't figure out whick one it is? thanks for the help sy #2716

If you've had your ecm in and out a few times, it can cut the vacuum line(orange)where it comes into the firewall.
Also make sure if you've had the controls out to get to the gauges that you put the gang vacuum back in place.
Follow the vac line that goes through the firewall back through the engine compartment and make sure it's not leaking or broken.
That whole system is pretty much vacuum operated.

i have checked where the it goes into the engine compartment and i can't find any leaks but i for got to mention that the air is only comeing out of the defrost vents. i now where the lines go into the back of the controll the little valve thing is missing that little button thing and i tryed to put i tback in but it won't stay do you think that is my problem??jonathan sy#2716

Yeah, most definitely. If it won't stay on, something may be torn. I don't have the little "button" retainer on mine either and it stays on because of the vacuum. Maybe you just don't have it seated all the way? Give it another try, it should work fine as long as the harness isn't torn. If it is, you might be able to clean the tear with alcohol and silicone the tear. If it isn't seated, you may hear a sucking sound (the vacuum) coming from the panel where the controls are.

i just bought my sy like three weeks ago... and im from alaska... and i have a similar problem... my heater wont work... i get no air blowing at all... well except when im driving the warm air blows out of the defrosters from the warm motor... but thats not gonna really help when it really starts to get cold... oh and i just installed a new blower... and that didnt help, i dont think the blower is working at all... so i really need help... i dont want icicles coming out of my nose this winter!!! if anyone knows how to fix this problem please help a fellow sy owner... id really appreciate it...

Get a voltmeter to see if you are getting 12 volts to the motor. There is a ground that goes up over the motor and to the left. Make sure it is good and clean.
If no 12 volts at the motor(purple wire), check your fuse. If there is 12 volts at the purple wire, make sure it is seated good. The connector it goes onto is not solid in most replacement blower motors and it may not be on good. If it is OK, then check the blower motor relay, a silver box on the blower motor housing. The purple wire runs from the blower motor to it. There will be a feed coming off the blower motor speed resistor going to the silver relay box. The blower resistor has two 7mm screws holding it to the fan housing. These SELDOM go bad but can rust apart if you live in a humid environment. It may just as simple as pulling this connector off the resistor and cleaning the contacts. Mine truck was a Michigan truck and it was RUSTY. Cleaned it up and all was well again.
The reason I think the relay is the problem is because you said the fan works sometimes when you are driving. A shock in the road may be bumping the relay enough to "unstick" it and let the motor work. They are really inexpensive but use a voltment to check everything to find out where the signal is stopping before you start replacing stuff.
If you've ever had you heater controls out, make sure all the wires are still connected at the controls. Those controls get brittle after being heated up over the years and the wires and connector will somtimes pull right out of them if handled too roughly.
You know the fan won't come on unless the selector is in anything other than the off position. Heat selector won't move out of the hottest position if the fan is on high. That is normal too. Have to put it on another speed so you can move the selector.

hey i just got back from work and i am on my lunch break and i drove the clone and i notice that the cruse doesn't work and that i can't hear any vaccum from the dash so i know that i have a vaccun leak under the hood some where??jonatha sy#2716

typical. its definately a vac issue under the hood. Its the line that goes from the front of the intake manifold along the passanger side fuel rail.
2 check valves, one at the split to the vac ball and cruise, the other is on the egr.

typical problem is where its connected to the big checkvalve.

ok cool i think i will check it ou tommoorow to see if i can if the leak!! Just wondeering where is the best place to get a full vaccum line replacement kit becaue i think it is about time consideering that the truck has 133,000 mile on it and i have no clue if it has ever been changed before thanks for the help guys!!!! jonathan sy#2716
