Stock 5.0 blocks are good for around 5-600hp. Then it's necessary to step up to an SVO block, Dart block or equivalent. Like said previously, the newer modular Cobra blocks are crazy strong.

About 500 at the crank is it. After that, they tend to convert into two 4 cyclinders.

As for the Cobra, I knew the mod motor was a much more stout platform. There's a few guys in town that have turboed them (SOHC 4.6) and at least one 600whp terminator. I saw the original thread a year or two ago on one of those SVT forums where the TT cobra broke into the 9's several times over without opening up the longblock. He's in the 8's now? Frigging awesome.

The F1 car ran 11.7 @121 a year and a half ago. I know the guy that used to own it. It should be making a bit more power now, but you're right with traction its gonna be a beast. Danny's blue car has been on the street he's been to GW day shows a couple times, I'd never call it a steet car as 1200+hp is pretty hard to control even on a well preped track. I think he's running a stroked 351w.

You know if he was at PMI on Oct 13? If so and that was him racing it looked pretty damn controlled to me, impressive infact.

A pushrod 302 / 306 / 331 or 347 can't make those power levels on a stock block.

My good friend Darin from racepartsolutions.com took his stock block/rod/piston iron headed 91 coupe to 10.06's at 134 with an MPT70 turbo, e85 and ~22psi. Not just one pass, he beats the living hell out of that car at the track and drives it to work most days too.

It can be done - _I_ wouldn't try it on a daily driver - but it can be done =)
