So I finally made a choice and contacted a feller from this forum named phoonTY. After a few email exchanges and phone calls we made a deal.

On FRIDAY Jan 23rd the same day we made the deal I closed my shop and hooked up a tow dollie to my Tahoe and I was quickly on my way to Colorado. The trip there was allright untill my Tahoe started acting up.. It would sputter and loose power... I would have to drop it to Drive to have enough power to keep rolling. By the time we reached our destination the Tahoe was running so poor I could barely stand it.. I knew it was bad. We had planned to be there about 5 hours earlier and stay at a hotel, but didnt because of the troubles the Tahoe gave us all night. So needless to say, my wife and I slept in the Tahoe for a few hours before the bank opened so we could withdraw the cash..

We met with poonTY and his wife. We chatted for a while and he told me all about the TY. I was amazed on how sharp it was. I was expecting a beauty but DANG!! that TY was HOT! After exchanging money and paperwork we got back on the road. Since the Tahoe was running so bad we desided not to tow the TY with it, so my wife had to drive the TY.. I was hoping the Tahoe would make it home , but I was dead WRONG.....The Tahoe only made it about 40 miles out of town and then it just gave out..... CRAP!!! I was so UPSET... My wife sugested that we rent a U-haul truck and just tow the Tahoe home..... ( she is so smart ) We drove to a nearby town and we found a U-haul place and OMG!! he only had ONE moving van.... ONLY ONE!!! We rented the truck and to make a long story short we were on our way...

Things were going smooth but we were so tired that we desided to stay at a hotel. After a goodnights sleep we were on our way.. Again... We made it home late that night ... Sunday Night. It was such a trip... more like an adventure..

Here is a pic of the Tahoe when it got home...

Poor thing... :(

But after all... I drove my TY into the shop and made it comfortable..

I hear they LOVE jack stands... So ....

Then my DAD starts to check it out... And he liked it.... Believe me, hes a hard man to please.. But after his inspections and a few things he nitpicked he gave me the ...

Thats all folks!

TNANK YOU phoonTY!! Thank you for the TY and the poster you gave me...

OH BTW, did I mention that my wife slid off the road while exiting the freeway... YUP... she slid right off the road and into a ditch.... It wasnt bad, she was able to drive it right back out.... No damage..

WOW!!! what a TRIP!

Well worth it...

Thanx for reading my post.

You must be the first person to transport a SyTy and have the TOW vehicle breakdown rather than the SyTy.

Man, syty trucks are cheap as hell these days...your other post said a budget of 9k, I'd say you got hooked up. POS toyota cost more than that! Nice job. I see a TY in my future. I like that hood too. Nice to see the truck stay in the syty.net family.

Oh, por favor believe me. This girl is gonna get treated nice. Im already planning to get a spare engine and trans built to have when needed. Im a good mechanic but a friend of mine is a SUPER GM freak and will be building these for me.

On another note, the bank told me they could get me 9K but after all I got less.... But im still happy...

Welcome to the "cult"! You don't have to be crazy to own one of these trucks but it certainly helps ;)... That is some story, there are others on here who have had similar bizarre things happen when they got their truck. I probably wouldn't have my truck if I DIDN'T get into a bicycle accident (car pulled out in front of me) that put me in the hospital for four days...

I know that member Stangbeater had their tow vehicle, a Ford dually, break down on the way back from KC to NY in 2000 trailering his syclone. Alternator went out in the Ford at night. The headlights kept getting dimmer and dimmer until the truck died... No problem, unloaded the syclone, drove to a hotel for the night and hit up a parts store first thing in the morning.

cool adventure story, I think it always makes the trip more memorable when you have to overcome adversity on those trips. My first Ty recon trip didn't have quite that much problem but enough to make it fun to remember.

on the Tahoe, check the dist cap etc first. My 97 1500 did the same thing, gradually started running worse and worse until one day it quit. The cam was also on my list but I remembered the ignition will do some crazy things and sure nuff it was a crappy el cheapo cap.

Enjoy and welcome

Luckily all the towing I've done with a Sy/Ty around the Tow Vehicle hasn't been the problem.....Well except that time Jeff ran his Tahoe out of gas with a certain swedish Syclone in an enclosed trailer behind it!

Wow what a story you have. I would never hesitate to drive it. I drive mine all the time and don't regret a single mile. Yeah you will be fixing it more but its worth it.

Congrats on buying a Typhoon, on the Tahoe, do like he said. I just got done spending $1300.00 dollars because the locating pins on the rotor broke off after a tune up that was done 2 years ago. The screws that hold the rotor back out and the pins were all that held it in place until they broke. The end result was after getting the van home (I choose to drive the last 6 miles) with it running really, really bad, I fix the problem with a $6.00 part. 2 week later the cats went bad from the 6 miles of gas that was flush though them and because it is a Calif only part the cost was over $800.00 ( that you must buy from the stealership because of Calif law) instead of $237.00 that the rest of the nation would pay.

To make a long story short I went ahead and replace the cats, the plug wires that were 2 years old and put NGK Iridiun plugs with MSD wires in it, put a Dynomax muffler on it. Now it get 21.5mpg on the hwy instead of the 19mpg that it got when it was new. It only took me a 166,000 miles to improve the mpg :rotf::rotf:.

I hope you didn't tow the Tahoe without disconnecting the drive shaft. I assume its and automatic and if so you most likely smoked the transmission.

Re: YEAH!!! I got me a TY!!! (see details inside)

Today I finally found out what happened.....

I get all my parts for my shop delivered from a local auto parts store...

THEY SENT ME THE WRONG GOSH DANG SPARKPLUGS!!!

They sent me plugs for a VORTEC... When I got them I noticed they were a bit longer and they were platinum plugs. I called back and spoke w the same sales man and asked him if these were the right plugs... He said "YES, they are the new plugs suggested for your truck" I asked him if he was sure since they were longer by about 1/4 inch. He said yes.

Today I started working on the HOE, well I had my hired hand working on it.. Once he pulled the first plug to check for compression we shocked to see that the plug was almost melted,,,, obliterated... It looked like some one was trying to ARC weld with a sparkplug...

Once I saw that I knew we had some problem w the plugs... I called back to my parts store and spoke w a different sales man and asked him to get me the part number for the plugs I needed for my 95 HOE,,, he gave me a diff number... He told me that those plugs were not for my truck and he was surpised that the other sales man sent them to me since they were for a vortec. He then sent me the right plugs and my HOE started right up.......................... SON OF A BIOTCH!!!!!

NOW I Have to run it for a day or so and start checking the compression on all CYL. to make sure that the hotter running plugs didnt blow holes on the pistons or ruined the valves....

If any damage was done I will be forced to seek compensation from that company... Thats gonna suck since the sales man that will be getting in trouble is a good guy and Ive known him for quite some time since I actually worked at the same place part time before I started my business... This is gonna get messy,... because I do think that there may be more damage.,...

I know that they have to make things right w me since I buy over 50k in parts from them per yr... If they choose not to work with me I will drop them faster than CRAP!

OH BTW.... I just rebuilt that engine... I purchased the crank, rings, oil pump, wires, plugs, cap, rotor, gaskets and a few pistons from them... Two days before I went to buy MY TY from phoonTY in Colorado...

Well.... I guess well see.... Wish me LUCK !!! :squint:
