wtf? I need help

ok, this is what I am gathering. the transfer case that WAS in my sy has a number 13-72-066-901.....the transfer case i bought to replace it has a number 44-72-066-901-b. the output shaft for the rear on my transfer case is smaller than the one I just bought in length and diameter, what is the right one for the truck. right now i am thinkning i will need to get a new yoke, rebuild the new case and shorten the driveshaft. i dont want to use the case that was in my sy because i think where the bearing sit at are "wallered" out because i can spin the output shaft and the outer race spins also and it does not do this in the "new" case. the only reason i want to rebuild the new case is it is kinda a pain to get it out and i don't want to have to do it again. please, someone help.

Re: wtf? I need help

I'm guessing you got a Bravada or AWDAstro T-case...

My truck is so mixed up I couldn't say what's right.

Someone will chime in directly with the real answer...:)

Borg and Warner 1372 is not the same transfer case as BW 4472

1372 was used in the Sy and has a 2 pinion planet with a 27 spline output shaft.
4472 was used in the Ty and has a 3 pinion planet with a 32 spline output shaft.

They are definitely different.
the Ty case should be considered an upgrade.

We put a Ty case in a local Sy, just have a Ty yoke put on the front of your driveshaft and you're golden.

As far as rebuilding goes, there is not much to them.
Replacing just the bearings and seals is the common rebuild.
Simply because the viscous clutch unit is not serviceable nor can it be tested once it is out of the truck.
A replacement viscous clutch is $600.

There is more info on www.sytyauthority.net under tips-drivetrain.
Its kinda cluttered and unorganized now but I am trying to clean it up in my spare time. Like I have any....

Best of luck getting all four spinning again

I’ve seen the bigger output shaft,
but I’ve never measured the length.
If the T-case you have is in good shape
it will be cheaper to change the yoke.

Not to completely take over the thread.. but then what are differences between SyTy TC's and Bravada/Safari ones? And what needs to be done to make one work in a Sy Ty?

As far I know nothing, the SyTy difference were more of a 92 update. I think the Bravada were all produce after 92 (or atleast most of them) so they generally have Ty style TC's. The Astro Van were produce 89 on and did come in both styles but I think most of them were made in the 89-91 so they usually have Sy TC's.

Just take your driveshaft and xfer case to a driveshaft shop, Im pretty sure you can gunt and point and they'll get it figured out.
