would it hurt?!

ok so i was thinking about this, i want to remove my front drive shaft and run my ty as a rwd just for a little bit to do a burn out (this is the first vehicle i have ever had that has the power to do one) would this hurt the truck at all?! i know it would have less power considering only 65% is going to the rear but thats why i am asking the never ending knowledge of the syty fourm members!!

its not fantastic for the transfer case. but it's been done many times.

ok so it wont blow anything up right? lol jk but so long as i do my business and put it back on it wont destroy it right?

Re: would it hurt?!

i guess my feelings are....if you're afraid of breaking the thing, why push your luck and do something that could hurt it.

If you just want to have fun and realize that you might hurt your t-case in doing so...go for it. People have driven many miles, dyno tuned, burnouts galore without realizing any major damage. It doesn't mean that you might not hurt yours. Doesn't mean that you will.

no. put it on video though, it looks cool. but be sure your engine is good to go, burnout higher RPM's and boost and a bad tuned engine is asking for a rebuild

Re: would it hurt?!

I had to drive my truck for a couple of days without the propshaft because my stock one was out of balance. They are pretty wild without the front wheels pullin and it hardly gets traction when the boost hits. Be careful because it is definitely not getting only 65% to the back wheels. Mine ran just as hard with the propshaft pulled.

that 65% to the rear wheels made me :rotf:

where is the other 35% going? Disneyland?

If you removed the propshaft, all the power will be going to the rear wheels

Re: would it hurt?!

if you do decide to pull the prop shaft just remember to use your parking brake or if its parked on any type of incline it wont be parked where you left it when you come back. but befor doing that make sure your parking brake cables arent rusted solid from never being used or you'll be stuck with dragging rear brakes.

Re: would it hurt?!

When ever I rebuild my trans, I always leave the propshaft off for a few days to make sure everything is ok. Of course, I do a burnout or two. First time I was amazed at how fast it broke loose. Dave is right about tires melting. Though it has not happened to me I have seen it happen. When I have done it I always had decent tread left and didn't worry. I personally wouldn't remove it just to do a burnout. It will be embarrassing if you have to race someone and just spin all over the place.

mod it so you can spin the fronts too.

i ran 2 days without mine in. as soon as the boost gauge crept past 1psi, the rearend was all over the place.

Re: would it hurt?!

Mines been off more than a few times. Dont know if it hurt the Tcase, due to the fact that its felt the exact same from the day i bought it. But a stock truck will burn them off all the way through 2nd (55-60mph), then grabs 3rd... I blew out 3rd and 4th gear, in less than 500 miles of driving RWD.

I love the fact that our trucks can go from AWD to drift mode in 5-10 mins. Its like a game or something. I want to really try and drift the shit out of mine one of these days. Do it, have fun.

Yeah they really are ridiculous without the propshaft. It made perfect sense why they are AWD the moment I took it around the block. It is pretty fun, but as you said, I doubt it does any favors for the drivetrain.
