Wiring Harness Question(s)

I'm going to install a Dominator setup, hopefully within the next couple of months. I have the entire front end off and engine out. For guys with aftermarket ECUs, BS3, Holley, FAST, etc. What are you doing with the factory fuse block?

From what I can tell, the ECU harness plugs into half and the headlights, turn signals, etc. plug into the other half.

I'm not sure if you can just remove half, I haven't taken it out yet to see what's underneath. Looks like Harmon just took everything out completely.

Re: Wiring Harness Question(s)

Take it all apart and you'll find 3 major pieces. The plugs you see in the firewall side, the fuse block, and an in-between piece the resides behind the fuse block. The in-between piece has the wiring for inside the cab. Kinda a gooey mess under the connector because of a black almost asphalt like oil, presumably used as a sealant.

How much individual pieces can be removed I can't say. Probably should have a wiring diagram. Anyway, that's what's there, hope I helped a tiny bit.

Re: Wiring Harness Question(s)

Thanks Don, I'm hoping there's a way to take out the ECM wires but leave the box so I don't have to rewire the headlights, turn signals, etc. While at the same time leaving something that doesn't look like crap.

Re: Wiring Harness Question(s)

I have started tearing my harness down. maybe I was naive or doing it wrong but I thought everything would pull apart into 2 sections one to the ecm and side to the firewall. But it is a tangled mess appearing to have connectors going in both directions. Do I need to unpin or cut anywires to get this thing separated?

Re: Wiring Harness Question(s)

I am still digging into it but my areas of confussion are the pink/black wires that converge near the egr connector, the black/white connector going to ground, ic relay, the coil white and pink, and oil psi orange appear to go in both directions

Re: Wiring Harness Question(s)

The coil has a white wire running to the ecm do I just cut it and save the pink one? And two black/white wires from the fuel pump relay and something else that lead to ground with 5 black/white and a tan wire going back to the Ecm.

Re: Wiring Harness Question(s)

Dave I got it separated here is what is left.
I just want to check before making any more cuts

Coolant Temp
Large Black Ground
Oil pressure this was hacked up and had 3 grey pigtails from it with just one orange connected the other 2 wires were open
Fuel pump relay
Fuel Pump Test
Alternator
Wipers
VSS
TCC
Fusable link
Junction Block
Coil
AC relay
ABS
IC pump
Starter
Then i have 2 non terminated wires. 1 tan wire 1 tan/black

ABS is gone but i plan on keeping AC

Re: Wiring Harness Question(s)

Thank you. I appreciate the clarity.
Motor should be finishing up from the machine shop soon and things will start going back together in due time.

Re: Wiring Harness Question(s)

Dave, do you mind briefly describing the AC setup or do you possibly have a link on syty. I am rewiring the existing harness for a 411 pcm and am going to keep the stock AC setup, but some of the wires are cut. There are 2 connectors for the AC harness portion but I only see 1 connector on the R4 compressor.

Thanks

Re: Wiring Harness Question(s)

Thanks very much...this will let me do a little more research and see if I can use it. I am not sure of familiarity between the 165 and the 411 but I will be checking to see if there is an AC request and clutch control. I still have the AC wires available on the 411 harness, but wanted to see if the Sy harness would be easier since I am using the same compressor. I'll report back...
