Wire harness

OK, my truck has been down for some time, I replaced every sensor there is and got a new computer and chip, truck runs now but the problem is still there. I can start it up without a problem but it breaks up and backfires when I give it some gas. So I'm pretty sure that I have some burnt wires, bad grounds, etc. So my question is since I have a Syclone would a wire harness from a Typhoon work as well or are there small differences that wouldn't allow me to replace the entire harness. Mine is butchered pretty bad so I figure just replacing it would be the easier thing to do. Can I still purchase one from gmparts or am I SOL?
Any info would help out alot, my truck is beating me up and I've had it over a year and probably drove it for a solid month on and off. So if anyone can help me out or point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
Thanks for all the help

Re: Wire harness

if I were you I would get one from painless wiring (http://painlesswiring.com). a universal 18 circuit or a custom made one are both not too expensive (last I checked, the price was about $350 with fuse box). what I like about them is they actually print on the wires what everything is (e.g. headlights, a/c, etc.) and their quality seems to be very good. the main drawback is that your truck won't be 100% original anymore if yuo decide to go this route.

If your talking about the ECM harness, they are going to be very close if not exact (I can't remember off the top of my head if their are any connector differences in that harness.) Functionally is the same.

The other harness going through the firewall on the driver side a has a few differences, between a Sy and Ty but nothing major.

GM harness if still sold are going to be expensive, I never priced on out for a SyTy but I did for my Corvette ECM harness and it was $700 for the ECM harness and $1300 for the main harness. You can still buy alot of the plastic connectors from GM, if you look in the service manual the part number is listed in the electrical diagrams, so you could peice together a wiring harness if needed (I would test all connections, for any splice, solder and shrink wrap them)

Re: Wire harness

the sy and ty do have different harness's and the only differance I can remeber right now are the connectors for the AC clutch. ty has weatherpak and sy has old style. same goes for the connector for the ac blower motor circuit.

ray moore in socal still has these for sale brand new for 270 plus shipping.

Re: Wire harness

The problem I think is that my exhaust has burnt out some of the wires, and I didn't want to take my entire harness out and look it over and then replace what needed, I'm pretty much trying to get my truck on the road as soon as I can or else I would be going over every little wire. The truck isn't stock as it sits so I really don't mind it not being original. Its been sitting for so long that I'm to the point were I'm about ready to part with it but if I do I want it to be in good running condition.
So the harnesses are pretty much plug and play with the exception of a few plugs that can be switched over? I just want it so it has all the sensor plugs like the tps, map, etc... Electrical isn't what I'm good at so I'm kinda in the dark with everything. I'll check into painlesswiring.com and see how that goes, but I'm pretty much looking to keep it around stock specs, I don't want to go over my head with a bunch of wires that I'm gonna go nuts over.
Do you have any info how I could get in touch with Ray moore as well?
is there anything else that I need to know before I jump in head first and then screw up?
thanks for all the info I appreciate it
