Windshield replacement

Got a quote on replacing the windshield. $160.00 installed using PPG glass with the tint across the top. Sounded fair. Just wondering.

Curious if there's any reason to get OEM glass?

TIA

Re: Windshield replacement

To get glass from a dealer is BIG $$$$$$

I would have paid $160, sounds decent

Haven't paid anyone yet. Just looking for opinions on if the quote was "in the ballpark" as-it-were.

my glass was 160 through a local guy, cracked within a month damned rock hit it, he came and did it the 2nd time for 100, pretty much just ate the labor.

Sounds like a fair price. I used a 94 Jimmy / Blazer windshield when I replaced mine in the Syclone. That was the beginning of the factory installed r134 refrigerent and there were complaints about the a/c being not as cold as the r12. The solution was a solar coated windshield, hence the different part# for the 94's.

Yeah absolutely. That's an average price.Call a couple more places and see. They should also come to your house and fix it your driveway if they are worth a crap.

Ditto. The cheapest that I got a windshield replaced in my s-series was $30. My friend and I pulled the glass (OEM) out ourselves from a junkyard. Not easy to do and if you don't have the right tools, forget about it even trying it... Got that for $20 since we pulled it

. And my friend who did auto glass for over 16 years help me install it. Had $10 in the tube of urethane for that. By me, most of the window repair places make house calls. Pretty painless repair for the most part and the price isn't too outrageous.

The last windshield I had to replace cost $150.00 and that was 7years ago. The work was done in my driveway.

Nice, so the 94' Blazer glass is coated ??And fits fine in a 91' Sy ?
I need to replace mine due to a growing fracture.
Where's the best place to get the thin plastic outside trim ?? :(

In FL, its free with insurance. Ive replaced multiple windshields on my past vehicles, never paid for one of them out of pocket, just a nice tip to the guy that comes out to the house and does it.

the moulding SHOULD come with the sheild if it is a ppg part, sometimes with ppg they dont include moulding in the price and it is needed with request....dealer parts always come with the moulding included but you will pay more, your best bet is to use universal 3/4" which is identicle to the stock one and half the price.

:hijack: Sorry but I gotta ask.

So what is this "solar coat", what does it do? Does it come on all 94' Jimmy / Blazer O.E.M. glass? Does it come on the PPG glass also?

TIA

The moulding does not come on or with our windshields. If the part number of any w/s does not end in Y the moulding is not included and must be ordered seperatly. Most technicians have different size rolls of flexi-trim that is commonly used for our application instead of the specific moulding.

James, it's similar to a Low "e" glass required to meet energy efficient standards in houses. It is supposed to reflect more heat and keep the inside of the cab cooler.
