I got these tips from my friend who has done auto glass for sixteen years. Two plastic clips hold the side glass in the track. If one of them breaks, the window won't stay in the track. Fix it yourself in about half and hour for under $15:
Plastic clips that hold the side window glass it the track. "HELP!" part #45330 you get 2 pieces $3.
Tools required: #2 phillips, 10MM nut driver, trim panel removal tool, needle nose pliers, magnetic pickup tool (good for when you drop stuff inside the door) & a SHARP knife. Dielectric grease and white lithium grease aren't necessary but while you got the door apart...
Pieces parts. The retainers are made by "Dorman" GM hood on the left is for the foam barrier that goes between the trim panel & the door #963-065 (you get 3 need 2). On the right are panel retainers these are what hold the trim panel to the sheet metal #799-130 (you get 15 need 9). Guides are #45330 for two (you need two per window). Price was around $3 each at Autozone in the "Help" section.
Here's a trick to manipulate the window without the trim panel on. Remove the switch from the panel so you can raise and lower the window to work on it. Switch has to be connected or else it won't work at all as it is required to complete the circuit (you can't just use the other switch on the driver's side).
Carefully remove the two 10MM bolts that pinch the glass between the support and track. The track bolts behind the support and can be slid off afterwards. There are holes in the glass for the bolts, track and support to go through so be cautious. The sheet metal inside the door is VERY SHARP. Be sure to lube everything up with white lithium grease before you reassemble everything.
Locations of the various panel retainers on the trim panel. If you don't have a trim panel removal tool, you can break the panel attempting to remove it. Also note the two tabs at the top that snap on the top of the door. These are the LAST ones that come out when you remove the panel and the FIRST ones that go in when you reinstalled it.
CAREFULLY cutting the old guide (there is one on each side of the window) so that the window can be removed. There is a hole in the window for the guides to snap through so you will want to avoid catching the tip of the blade in the hole. After you pull the window, be sure to pull the old guides out with a pair of pliers.
Both guides cut, time to pull the glass. Be EXTREMELY careful as it is VERY easy to break the window. The trick is to let the front of the window drop out of the track and lift up on the back so that you can pop it out of the track. When you put it back in, the front HAS to go in first followed by the back. Steady pressure is applied until it pops back in the track.
A new guide installed on the window after soaking in HOT water for a few minutes. If they are not soaked in hot water, they will crack when you install them.
