I feel stupid but I cant find the answer... which way in relation to 0 is considered timing advance and retard as far as the timing mark(BTDC = advanced or retarded) I have a miss at wot and keep getting different opinions on what to do. retard or advance to see if it changes.. I have read post after post and am confused. so I thought I would look like a dumbass and post this LOL. This truck reminds me of my wife.. somedays I just love to hate it.

counter clockwise advances the timing. i would just set it to 0 with the tan wire disconnected then replace all the igniton components. (plugs, wires, cap rotor) vaccume hoses too.

also check that youre getting enough fuel and that the gas tank is fuller than 1/2 tank. my truck cut out when i forgot i was low on fuel and (tried) to go WOT.

doubtful its your timing.. check for low fuel supply as mentioned or check your plugs.. POssibly your gap is too large and the spark is blowing out under boost. That or you have the wrong plugs.

I just checked I have a little above a quarter of a tank.. the plugs were just out when I did the other work.. nice and golden brown... the only thing I have done since it ran at the track..{ kept dying but ran 8 sec,} was change the ignition module and pickup.. moved the distributor over one notch to the right because it was facing the passenger side and putting strain on the coil pickup wires.. Everthing lined up with #1 tdc on rotor and piston... new TB and Upper gaskets. I also checked the passenger side pushrods because someone had said previous owner had problems bending... they appeared straight and when I put the crane race rollers back on I tightend them down without really adjusting them.. The stumble at idle and die is gone.. truck runs fairly well.. only it just doesn't have the same oomph that it did before at top end... I think either the valves arent opening right due to the fact I might have overtightend them or.. the ratteling might be setting off the knock sensor.. I have a datamaster but the damn thing died on me on the way home so I lost the file and havent had time today to re run one. SO I feel its either the low fuel... timing off a little... knock retard... or I did have the Idle Air sensor out and might have messed it up cleaning it.....

gimmie a break!

go adjust your valves properly... why would you do it any other way....

I adjusted the valve Ed.. so you can sleep better tonight,,,,, Filled the tank up and that took care of the complete cutout at wot... but it still doesn't run just right...

when you say "still doesn't run just right"

describe that so someone can help you further.

its probably something you over looked thats real simple

the users here can give you all sorts of stuff to 2x check that you might have missed.

my favorite of all time was after puttin a new cam in. it just wasnt 100 percent. went thru all the ignition cuz one plug kept coming up looking different. at one point i thought ... if i didnt know better i would say this thing never got any fuel. reached up and gave injector for cyl 3 a little push and heard it click. problem was fixed.

so whats it doin or not doin.

http://www.epixpc.com/syty/AutoLog_005.uni Waller looked at it and said the mat temp and eng temps were high.. I think I forgot to turn on the ic pump.. It just feels like it stops pulling between 90% and WOT.. I also detect a different note from the exhaust. Its not something the average person would notice.. it just seems different.. like a really fast miss,stutter.. Above is a datamaster file.. would you mind looking at it for me.. When I replaced the dist. I rotated it to the right one notch. with everything lined up on #1.. I dont have a piston stop or dial indicator so I had to do it with a small screwdriver and by feeling the piston to find TDC.. I was as carefull as possible but I might be off a degree or so.. I am experimenting with retarding the timing a degree and then running it to see if that makes a difference. Tjen another and so on.

do you have a timing light? if so, go out and unplug the tan wire and set your timing to zero. it takes just two minutes to do it if you have the distributor loosend a bit. if you dont have a light, go buy one, the local parts store to me has them for like 30 bucks if you just get the plain old static timing light. its not really worth playing around with for 30 bucks in my opinion.

also, as mike stated above, you might be blowing out the spark under high boost. what boost levels are you running? (sorry, dont have datamaster to look at the file). did you double check the plug gaps before you put them in? if so, where did you gap them at?

Started at 0... plugs gapped at 35 I think.. CR42's moving timing around to see what effect it has in case I am off a degree from tdc

CR42s or CR42TS? CR42TS is the correct one.
