I am going to be purchasing a used s10 1998 or newer, in the near future to swap syclone engine and awd driveline into. My question is what is going to be more suitable for the swap? a 108" wheelbase 2x4 or 4x4? are there diffs in the chassis between the two? already planning on getting one that has the v6 (not to use that v6, just to have the right mounts and such) as far as the front diff. goes, can i use the one out of the 4x4 and does it need to be modified? transmission, i would need a 700r4 right? anything special about this? basically what problems am i going to run into? I can source the complet engine easily. its the rest i'm not sure on.

You are gonna have to start with an AWD chassis.

McCoy has done this conversion and there are a few posts in teh conversions forums regarding what all is involved.

Check in with Jerry McCoy at www.tobefast.com he will help you see the light.

what are the key differences between the 4 x4 frame and 2wd frame? Can a 2 wheel drive frame easily be used for an all wheel drive conversion?

Torsion bars and the absence of coil springs is the main reason.

You are going to have to run a halfshaft out to each front wheel and the 2wd S-Series all have a giant coil spring in your way.
No amount of lowering or modding spindles is going to get you there.

Plus if you go 2wd there is MUCH more room under the motor to get it sitting in there comfortably. Also leaves more room for exhaust and such.

Best of luck getting your dream ride underway.
