Where to start with Performance Upgrades?

an adjustable chip... But you need the scanmaster( to monitor for knock retard most importantly) and to adjust the chip parameters. Hope I got that right.... Eric(turbotweak) could answer it MUCH better.

Re: Where to start with Performance Upgrades?

You are violating rule #754,526 of syclone ownership. You must learn to maintain it and drive it daily for 1 year with NO days you can't drive it due to being broken before you are allowed to do any modifications. Only once you have completed this rule, can you then send in an application to the sy/ty god and ask for approval in doing modifications.

If you can't maintain it stock for 1 year as a daily driver, you are not allowed the modification authority.

Re: Where to start with Performance Upgrades?

Welcome to the site. Here is my 2 cents worth.

1. I would use NGK UR6IX part # 7348 MSD plug wires (they came out with a new part # 31649 I think). I left that information in Calif until the next trip.

2. Standard Blue Streak Cap and Rotor.

3. AFPR.

4. Fuel pump upgrade to a Walbro 255lph in-tank pump.

5. I really like the MSD 6A

6. Replace all the vacuum lines on the truck.

7.The rear sway-bar will really improve the way the truck handles.

If you are smart leave the truck stock other then doing the reliability things.

Re: Where to start with Performance Upgrades?

Hey guys so I have looked through the forums and I am new to this place.
I just bought a Syclone and it has 125K miles on it but is in great shape, no smoke, no ticks, good compression and all.

The truck came with the following mods already:

Kenny Bell CAI
Air to air intercooler
Headers
1" lowering kit
3in downpipe with 3"in straight exhaust
Fuel pressure regulator
Battery Relocation

I want this to be a fairly reliable summer vehicle. I don't really care for going fast or boost launching it but just as a nice cruiser. I was going to be doing the following mods to add to the others, let me know if there is something you would add/change

Scanmaster 3
Turbo Tweak Chip
60# Injectors
3 Bar MAP
Fuel pump hotwire
Aeromotive 340GPH fuel pump
In tank wiring
MSD Ignition coil
MSD Cap and rotor (bronze)
UR5 Plugs
Fuel Filter
Taylor 8mm wires
All the fluids changed

Thats all I was going to do. Is that a decent setup. I appreciate all the advise

I would skip the MSD coil. You can buy a brass cap and rotor at autozone.

Get the vac line kit from sport machines well worth the effort and money

Re: Where to start with Performance Upgrades?

I would hold off on the adjustable chips.

Do the reliability mods and get the truck running 110% on the stock chip & injectors. THEN look into the adjustable chip, injectors, and map sensor.

The worst thing you can do is cover up an engine problem with tuning (or adjusting a chip).

Verry good advice Brandon, also with the Kenny Bell stuff on it now I would not be surprised if there is a K B chip in there now! Make sure you check your boost! Make sure the boost is at stock setting should not be more than 15 psi. They call the k B chip kaboom for a reason!

Re: Where to start with Performance Upgrades?

What engine problem should I look out for before doing this stuff. I have done a compression test, runs good, doesn't have any leaks, looks like it had brass cap and rotor already (still going to replace), vac lines look replaced (still will replace) no exhaust leaks. I will have to see what chip the guy has in it right now and what level boost he is running. I agree I don't want to do all this stuff and then grenade the engine 2 days later.

Grab a new boost solenoid as well. They are easily broken when performing the vacuum line upgrade. They're pretty cheap and it will make sure you're actually producing boost. Mine was broken for the 1st year that I owned it...it was a crazy improvement.
