Where to start with Code $59?

I finally got a wideband for 1190 and I want to start tuning. I've been doing a little research on code59.org but I'm still lost.

Where do I start? Should I bypass my narrowband 02 and put my wideband directly into it? How do I do that without having the truck run like junk?

Any help would be awesome, I want to start tuning on Thursday

You can run the WB02, when your starting off tuning you should start off in open loop (ie ECM ignoresNarrow Band O2 sensor)

So basically just unbolt the stock o2 sensor, unplug it, and then replace with the wideband? I understand that, thank you!

Now, as to wire the output from the wideband to the ecu....which wire?

....Read this first... http://www.code59.org/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=69&func=view&id=2025&catid=12

There are some other 'how to' threads over on 59 to help you get started.

This thread talks about interfacing a wideband with the ECM.... http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=48363&highlight=plx

You'll want to do some pretty serious studying before you get into this, and have a pretty clear picture in your head of how it all works.

Incorporating a wideband into the ECM and wiring isn't a problem at all, I have no worries with that. I just need to know which ones to tap into for power and ground :)

Re: Where to start with Code $59?

depending which wb02 you have would make the difference how you connect to the ECM

I have the innovate LC-1. pin f14 on the ecm and thats it. For my truck I just had another bung welded to the downpipe, then you have narrow and wb02 for added fault tolerance.

Re: Where to start with Code $59?

The Autometer wideband I have is setup for the wideband output and ground for the ecu, which pinouts do I need to tap into?

Do I need to splice the wideband wires into them or do I cut and wire accordingly?

Thanks guys!

Re: Where to start with Code $59?

The ECM is already grounded. Get one of the output lines, should be two of them, input to the f14socket on the ECM, and ground the wideband itself, not the ECM. So only one output wire into the ECM. Use one of the latest starter bins on code59, test afpr cell in datamaster. Do you have a wiring diagram of the autometer wb02? If your wb02 really requires a system ground through the ECM you would use socket B9. Good luck.

As discussed in this thread (see below), you need to get the correct connectors and insert into the BLANK terminal socket... so, to answer your question, you don't splice or cut - you start from scratch.

To wire into a socket for the ECM you need these...bring this picture to a GM dealership and get one of the techs to help you. They've got an electrical parts box to dig through which will have a few. Don't bother trying to explain it to them, just bring the pic.

Re: Where to start with Code $59?

I really do appreciate all the help from you guys.

I got a stock .bin uploaded into the truck and it was fumbling around for some reason. Table f28 was showing 130 across the board so I raised it up to 150 and that seemed to help out a whole lot. What would be the cause of this?

I'm sorry I'm asking soo many questions here instead of the code59 boards but they take quite some time to respond over there.

EDIT: I also noticed that my f29x table was insane and looked like a bomb exploded in the graph...lol

Fixed everything and so far it's working out flawlessly! The .bin file I had was corrupted but thanks to Brandon I was able to get a new stock file that set me up just right!

Now that your that far along, looking back it seems easy if you had to do it again I imagine?

This is how the complete tuning process will go. Once you figure it out you are like the office max commericial, THAT WAS EASY.

Good job, Busted! Now keep logging and refining (up hills, cruising, part throttle, etc.) and you'll be in great shape.

Re: Where to start with Code $59?

Alright, so I haven't gotten the wideband wired up to the ECM but I've been needing to drive it around anyway because it being my daily driver. Some things that I've noticed and assume because I don't have a narrowband setup that while cruising the truck will go extremely lean and often times the truck will free rev before engine breaking.

Another thing that I noticed,is when I temporarily wired the wideband to the ECM just to see if it worked the "actual afr" was off by quite a bit from what the gauge actually said. I tried using all of them separately but only found one that was within 1-2 points. Any idea on how to make my own in the XDF or modify one of these to work?

Thanks!

Re: Where to start with Code $59?

AFR amount 1-2 full AFR means a ground/voltage something is not right. I would try a new ground, maybe directly to ecm case.

.1 - .2 afr off is another story, probably just a refresh rate of gauge -vs- tunerpro -vs- how fast you can comprehend everything.

It was hooked up directly into F14 and B9 but it wasn't done with the weatherpack clips until today. I'm on my way to the dealership to grab a few hopefully and get this all finished up and start with the cruise tune.
