Where Do I Buy New Carpet?

I have been searching here and only cameup with these two websites.
There is a big difference in price as well. My gut is that the more expensive one is the company to go with. "You get what you pay for" Yet Im all about saving a buck.

Anyone know about these or can you recommend a good place to buy stock looking Ty carpet?

Re: Where Do I Buy New Carpet?

I haven't bought carpet for my Syclone but my experience with ACC has been great. I have used their carpet kits in many muscle cars and the fit is great. Hope this helps.

Use ACCMats by all means. I have their carpet and love it.

The color match of charcoal is not exact but it looks excellent. Also, unless you absolutely have to, do not try and replace the carpet pieces on the plastic trim. It is finicky and difficult to make fit.

Also, make sure to insulate. I use peel-n-stick roofing to insulate under the carpet, has been great....no smells or staining, I've driven the truck in 100 degree traffic without trouble.

Third... the stock carpet was just slid under the trim pieces and had cutouts for the screws... I didn't trim it around them but instead screwed straight through the carpet. Keeps it nice, tight and well located without using any adhesive. Using the adhesive wouldn't hurt though

What plastic trim? You mean on the back by the wheel wells?

You mean roofing insullation like at Home Depot? This next question shows my ignorance... why do I need to do that?

I'm sure they used the axact same carpet in the Blazer/Jimmy

Yeah but I want nice carpet to match my Typhoon interior. I have perfect rear carpet in the typhoon but the front has a couple cigarette holes in it so it needs to be replaced.

Re: Where Do I Buy New Carpet?

The rear stuff is all slide under as well. I was refering to the pieces up front, kick panels and sill specifically.
The insulation is nice to have... keeps a lot of road noise out and keeps heat down too. Doesn't really block out the motor though  . The original carpet has a heavy piece of insulation glued to it, about twice as thick as the built in piece on the new carpet. Rather than buy more insulation to cut and fit under the carpet, I used the stick on stuff. As I said, the color match is not exact, but if the rear piece is a different shade you will NEVER know the difference. The rear seat divides the two pieces and the difference is only enough to notice when the two are edge to edge

I meant it as you could search for new Jimmy/Blazer carpet instead of just Typhoon.

I think the only difference on ACC's stuff is the colors they offer... price is similar, if not the same

Oh yeah... I just want to match the interior as close as possible when buying the carpet. jjorgensen52 did a good job of telling me to buy the ACC carpet. lol

Re: Where Do I Buy New Carpet?

I have the carpet from the company in JKs post. I got black since I don't really like the stock carpet color. It has less padding on the bottom (none in some areas) than stock and weighs probably 1/2 as much or less. A lot of trimming is required. I'm almost done installing it - I promise to make a full "review" type post when I'm done with all my thoughts.

Re: Where Do I Buy New Carpet?

I just did this to mine today. Stuff is called "Peel-n-Seal". I looked at the dynomat stuff and the peel-n-seal.....exact same stuff as the "xtreme" dynomat. I went all the way up to the windows and up the ceiling on the pillars. Cost a whole $43 (instead of $500+ for dynomat) to do the entire back of the Ty. 3 rolls will do it, get 4 rolls if you want to do the floor boards and over the stock sound deadening material on the open floor area in the back. Thanks for posting this up, you saved me a TON of money. Took me about 2 hours to install the peel-n-seal. My thumbs are sore.

I ended up using 4 rolls, as I doubled it over the exhaust and rear cargo area (noisy areas  )

Re: Where Do I Buy New Carpet?

I have some stock 93 Typhoon carpet in very good condtion from my Ty i'm parting out. IF you really want OEM let me know and I'll make you a deal

Be carefull with the peal & seal and ice & water barriers. Some can stink to the high hevens of asphalt, and others will peel off when it gets really warm. I've delt with them before. I would never pay retail on dynamt, but second skin audio makes some good stuff at nice prices.

As an installer, I've delt with it all. Fat mat, rraamat (or what ever the **** its called) brown bread, the cheap shit, dynamt, dyamat exteme, and I like second skin the most. In my lexus I have aprox 100 sq ft of dymant exteme covered by 5 gallons of the sprayed in spectrum. Needless to say the car is quite.

Shruggs you are more than welcome to come over and check out my ACC carpet. I got it to fit a little better and am much happier with the interior now.

That sounds cool. I would love to see your truck anyway.
Sy756 just picked up a Ty this week and he lives in Justin. There are three of us with project trucks right in the area now.

Re: Where Do I Buy New Carpet?

Here is some stuff i found on the peel-n-seal stuff. Its also not sold at home depots down south as its used an an ice damn up north.

Dont use it in your doors...
http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/audio-electrical-and-wiring/17352-grief-with-peel-n-seal/

"in reviewing all the car audio posts it seems that it is okay to use on a floor but there have been alot of problems with it sticking to the roof.. I may still use some on the floors, but I will buy something stronger for the roof and doors/quarters."

Your not even supposed to use Dynomat on the roof. It says so right in the instructions.
The guy that did the tundra doors didn't follow directions. When you initially install this stuff, you have to use a heat gun....JUST like the Dynomat stuff. If you just stick it on cool metal with your hands, it WILL not make good contact and it WILL come off. The surface also has to be clean. It stuck to his glass because it was hot and clean. Imagine that. Just be careful when you get advise on the internet, they seldom, if ever tell the whole story and usually use a forum to vent rather than educate.

It's not an ice dam. It's meant to seal leaks in trailors and RV's.

But the peel n seal doesnt come with car install instructions. I have never seen a dynomat instruction before either. I didnt know that.

Maybe not yor stuff, but some IS used for sealing water and ice from roofs. It is roofing insulation. Here is another quote I found

---------------------------------------

"Though I would jump in on this one. sound damping is my area of expertise.

For anyone thinking about using Peel and seal, or ice guard, I would warn against it if you live anywhere that gets hot in the summer.
both products have low heat tollerances. peel and seal does a little better because it has the aluminumheat shield, but still only good up to 150 degrees.

The aluminum absorbs a lot of the heat, and helps to keep the biumen cool. with out this, the bitumen just cooks, and everntualy will ooze, melt, slide or fall off.

do a search over at www.sounddomain.com
or www.caraudioforum.com on either product.

lots ofpeopl used those products to save money and had the material melt in thier cars.
however, some people have had good results with the products as well.

Dynamat extreme is a great product because it has a heat tollerance of 300 degrees. it is a bit pricy though

Here are a few good cheap alternatives to Dynamat extreme:

Rammat
edead
brown bread
fat mat

If you have any questions about Second Skin I can adress those.
Feel free to email me about any sound deadening questions you have at all. I am always happy to help, even if you dont use Second Skin"
