Where did you mount your killswitch?

Going thru the battery relocation wiring this weekend and plan on wiring in a killswitch but can't really think of any good locations to mount other then by the license plate which I don't really want to do. I'd like something a bit less obvious is possible but sitting here at work I can't think of any off hand.. so where's everyone mounting theres? I guess I could just mount it under the hood since I don't race at the track much

under the hood doesnt work well if you need to get to it in a hurry in the event of a crash, which i believe why it is req. at some tracks. Behind the plate is a good idea if its just for the track. I saw a IN lic plate that read "ON OFF" with the Kill switch lever right in the miidle of the plate. prob not legal but it looked cool.

Good idea but don't you have to cut up the cladding?? can't see my self having the balls to cut up cladding

yea I had mine setup like that on my previous mustang.. it's too obvious though for my truck as it's only seen the track about four times in the 5 1/2 years i've owned it.. but it does see tons of street action so I was looking for something less obvious.

Yea this was what I was leaning towards so far..

Re: Where did you mount your killswitch?

If you do plan on racing at a track and they see the battery re located the kill switch needs to be accessed by track workers for your safety, also you read the NHRA guide for kill switches not all of them are acceptable even though they sell them ie: no plastic. I mounted mine under the bed with a rod that sticks out the back of the truck which I can take off when not at the track. If you plan to run it at a track your kill switch also needs to kill (turn off) the truck when switched off, to do this you need to cut the field wire for your alternator also or the truck will stay running when the switch is turned off. I used a Ron Francis wire works battery kill switch that has 4 posts on it 2 for battery and 2 for the field wire.

Mike,

If you were at the Hooters meet that just passed then yea you showed me your setup and it was pretty damn neat and creative but my truck hardly ever see's the track and if it does it's just on street test and tune nights (tues & fri) which doesn't require inspection.

Thanks for the ideas guys much appreciated

I have the local tech guys convinced that a Syclone came with the battery mounted under the bed. They bought it and have not said a thing since.

Thats not saying alot though as they also bought the drive shaft loop "story" we fed them about Hardmans truck.

Tech: "You got a safety loop on this"
Mike: "Maybe"
Tech: "Well"
Mike; -to Jeff- "Hey, you put that loop on my truck while you had it"
Jeff: "Yea, it's on there"
Tech: "OK whatever"

In other thoughts actually pertaining to the thread at hand, and not directed at some local guy.....Boosted Thrills (Mike B) has a pretty cool setup. He has a rod that goes THROUGH the taillight with a nice polished aluminum end on it. Push the end, and it flips the switch. A bit over engineered for a daily driver, but a very cool setup none-the-less.

I never said they were the sharpest tech personal! Hell the track is located in Kentucky what do you expect.

BTW +1 on the rod through the tail light or between bumper and bed. If ever required to get one, that is how I would approach it.

Has anyone had problems with blown alternator diodes from with just disrupting the field wire? I have seen some switches with 6 poles, 2 for the battery, 2 for the coil wire and 2 to ground out the alternator feed through a resistor. Are these swithches worth it, or is it safe for the alternator to just use a 4 pole switch?
