Wheel question... 17 x 9.5"

Re: Wheel question... 17 x 9.5"

I've seen from 245s to 275s on 17x9.5 wheels, a lot of vette fronts are 9.5" wide and that's what people seem to run. I'm happy with 245s on 8.5s. 275s rode like shit on my ty, I'd go with 255 if available but it depends on the tire itself too.

For wheel size, I think 18s can be made to work, 19s or 20s look terrible if you're running 26" tires. The only way I could imagine 20s was if you went to taller tires to alleviate the rubber band look

I think 275s go best with a 17x9.5. Go with a 275/40/17, and it has the same overall diameter as the factory tires, so no speedometer discrepancies.

Yes that is the tire size. 275/40/17. I am lowered a bit from factory. The tires do not rub however the inside of the rims do come into contact with the upper control arms when the wheel is turned all the way left or right. Ive already knocked a set of wheel weights off the inside or the rim. You can notch the upper control arm or modify the steering stop to prevent this problem. Aftermarket tubular control arms may not have this issue. Maybe someone can confirm that?

If you get the ZR1 style, get the 17 x 11 rears so you can run the 315's. I still don't like the size of the side wall....they just look too small for the wheel well opening, but that's a good choice for a wheel upgrade. Helps show off those nice brakes if you've deleted the rear drums and went with a slotted and drilled rotor set too.

Looking at getting some of these for the Sy...

I assume these should fit and support 245 or 265 series tires?

Anyone have experience with these wheels? Looking to do a brake upgrade, would y'all recommend going with 18's?

Thanks for any insight.

Imo, 17x9.5's are nice but I prefer 18's...especially if your going with bigger disc brakes. Those are some nice wheels though:tup:

You have too watch ebay there are a lot of aftermarket rims which are very heavy to oem . I had 19/20 on my vette they looked good but I lost a lot of power its night and day difference with oem zo6 rims .

Craigslist also occasionally has good deals on wheels and tires every once in a while, at least here in Chicago. There are always a few sets of vette wheels, not too many c4/c5 wheels anymore though.

If you don't mind looking through hundreds of pages of crap, ebay is good too. I bought my 17" magnesium vette wheels for $500 shipped from ebay, just had to search around. I'd look out for sets of same size wheels so you don't have to buy two sets to get 4 same size wheels unless you want staggered but it looks like crap when you have to match tire diameters. Like 1blkc4 said, watch out for replicas--you're better off buying used oem wheels. I've seen a lot of c5 and c6 replicas that weigh 5-10 pounds more than oem which is a lot when you're looking at 16-20 pound vs 20-25

Duh, I always forget the C5s where staggered 17/18.

There was a set of the Speedline Z06s on my local craigslist just last week, Ive been looking for wheels for months now. Those things were gone in a day. Wanted $800 for the set with tires.

Yup, that is correct. Hard to find OEM wheels sometimes. I myself have the aftermarket ones. I have to agree they are a bit heavier cause I had the OEM zr1 sawblades and you can most deff notice the difference. Very nice look though;)

Thanks for the input all, I found some OEM 94/95 silver ZR-1 A molds. 9.5" fronts and 11" rears.
