What's with the roof racks on Ty's?

Why does everybody hate them? I have open holes that are going to need welded shut, thought about just putting a rack back on and not having to weld them.

Why do so many people hate the roof rack? Im new to Ty's.

For those of us who can actually see them, they clutter the top of the truck. Clearly 99.99% of them are never used. I would personally just put it back on vs sealing the holes, but I would never put one back on if I was replace the roof skin.

So if I have my guy weld the holes, will I need to purchase a new roof skin or can you reuse original?

:werd: Plus the rack just looks stupid I think. My old TY had one and I hated it. I never used it, it held water, and started discoloring from the sun. My next TY will definitely not have a roof rack.

You are totally right on that.
But I love the way it looks and mine came with the wind deflector that I like too.
I'll buy a longboard so I can surf this summer (December) and I will definatelly need the rack.

I never wanted a rack on mine either. there is no use for it on mine but it kinda grew on me with the dark windows and grand sport wheels and black door handles. It really kinda ties it all together. when i get it painted ill head over to the body shop and see what it looks like then.

I like my rack. I think it ties the truck all together. I have an '84 Jimmy that does not have the rack, which I think would look stupid with the rack, but on the black Ty, I like it!

The way I see it, if it came with it, keep it for originality. Fortunately mine came with one painted the same color as the body of the Ty. Looks awesome. It will come in handy when you get that 10 foot X-Mas tree to haul.
