since i got the motor built with the heads ported n' stuff im getting almost 20 psi of boost at full throttle. so im getting a chip burned for me right now thats comin from someone that the guy that build my motor knows. when i talked to him about the boost issue he said that he was gonna have the chip tell the waste gate to dump at 20psi. i kept trying to bring up the subject that i only had a 2 bar map sensor and that wasnt gonna work right, but he said that i have the same map sensor part number that his new 3500HD pickup has and that map reads 30psi. just wondering if any of this was actually true or if this boost thing is gonna be a problem.... :agrue: :drinking: :drinking:

Whoa! I would not trust a chip from "some guy". And why does this other guy think you have a 3 bar MAP? If you still have the stock MAP and this guy is telling you it's a 3 bar you need to run away quickly.

well the part number is whatever the stock map sensor # was, and he just said that the map sensor thats in there will work fine. this "guy" )i forgot his name) supposedly has burned alot of chips for these things before. :-?

Brodie...if what you say is true he don't his ass from a hole in the ground, I'd tell him just leave it as is...list all your mods here, and we'll direct you exactly from here, don't do anything else except keep your foot out of the loud pedal!!!! You need to start data logging what is going on first, confirm 2 bar etc. and then we'll know where you can start...slow down and you'll be gooder trust me....

The guy knows just enough to be trouble.
The stock 2 bar chip sees 30 pounds but ABSOLUTE.
Here's what this means:
First Bar is 14.7 psi ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE. This is the pressure we are subjected to all the time.
The Second Bar is when you actually get into boost. This goes up to 14.7 psi boost pressure.

1 Bar=atmospheric pressure of 14.7 psi
2 Bar=atmospheric pressure of 14.7 psi + turbo boost pressure of 14.7 psi
3 Bar=atmospheric pressure of 14.7 psi + turbo boost pressure of 29.4 psi

Don't let this guy burn a chip for you. He doesn't know enough.
Get an Ultimate and a 3 bar map sensor. The part number for it is listed all over the place.

Don't think the Ultimate is gonna fix problems though. Fix your problems correctly and then go with an Ultimate.

IOW tune for the limits of the stock setup with your stock injectors. Get everything running correctly and then start tuning with the ultimate.

edit: Wanted to add something here. Can't remember you saying if you are running a stock turbo or not but your heads being ported doesn't have anything to do with you running 20 psi. You obviously aren't running a stock chip or your truck would be getting a code 31 for overboost and shut off fuel. What setup you running? Stock max boost desired is 13.8 psi. That's it. Anything more requires an adjustment to get it exactly where it should be. Are you using a real boost gauge or the stock gauge? Stock is just to let you know pressure is building.

Bill where is that spot in promgrammer where you tell the chip to dump the wastegate at 20psi? See I knew it was easy. BG just tries to make it seem hard

Some people are stoopid

im using an aditional auto meter boost gauge, and stock turbo, and i just got the car 6 months ago so i had been wondering if it had a different chip in it....... if im building that kinda boost i guess i must??

also: if i adjust the wastegate rod will this get some of my boost issues under control, and how can i tell if i dont have a stock chip??

Instructions to repair your truck:

1. Rip up, tear up, discard any paperwork with this "GUYS" name, number, email, etc. Obviously he doesn't have a clue from the info we have.

2. Shut your truck off, spend the next 3hrs doing searches on here for chips, reading posts, etc. Education takes time, but is FREE here.

3. Lots of people here that will help. The trouble is, we do not have enough info. Things such as a fully detailed build list, and SCANTOOL file. See the FAQ's on the board. There is only 1 place to get 3bar chips. You will find all that info in your search also.

There is more knowledge and info about syty's available here, than GM probably knows, in terms of modifications, how to fix GM mistakes, etc.

Some "PERSON" down the street, may be able to get his lips to move and say "YEA I CAN DO IT!", but you will find out in syty world people like that are probably lieing, everytime their lips move.

Get a build list and scan file, we shall help. Without that, it is impossible.

Is there anyone around you that has Diacom or Datamaster so you can get a record of your truck while you drive it around under various conditions?
How long ago was the truck rebuilt? If you are running around making 20 psi on a freshly rebuilt engine, you can't be expecting it to live very long. Boosting a fresh built engine is not a good thing. Let alone doing it under unknown knock conditions. What kind of fuel pump? Stock? If it is, forget about boosting it anymore until you find out the state of tune with Datamaster or Diacom. If it is still using the stock boost control solenoid, unplug it until you find out what kind of memcal its running. That way it should only make 8-10 psi max if the wastegate is adjusted correctly.
Look around for a while and you learn all kinds of stuff. Just DON'T BREAK YOUR TRUCK before you learn it. Unfortunately, that's what many do. It makes the ownership experience less than desired. Just be careful with it.
