Well guys, I'm here for your thoughts and opinions, doesn't mean I'll do whatever you say, but Ill sure listen.
I currently own a 93 Typhoon, number 1114? I think off the top of my head. This is the old Big Block Typhoon from years ago. It was a victim of an engine fire at 27k miles in the Chicago area around 2000. Was sold, title stayed clean, guy from Illinois bought it, replaced the front sheetmetal, and painted the whole truck. Installed a big block very poorly and hacked up a lot of wiring. A friend and I bought the truck a few years back with no engine and it has changed hands between us. I have had it for the last year, sitting in the garage doing nothing. Currently the dash is out because it's halfway through having another Typhoon harness installed and possibly all of the A/C parts put back in that were ripped out. The engine fire just heated the firewall enough to melt some wiring, etc years ago. So, here it sits, motorless, 27k miles...beautiful leather...doors shut like new, NO rust. The paint was nice back when it was done, but poor prep left it ugly in a few spots. It also is covered in metalflake and has a few gaudy airbrushings. But it is still a clean 27k 93 Ty with potential.
Part of me wants to sell it rolling, after I put the dash together fully and make it look more presentable, however I owe a lot on it now because I took a loan out on it. The other part of me wants to put it together, with a fuel injected small block and make a nice driver out of it. I know, that kills the purists, but come on, the engines long gone as are most engine compartment pieces. I would need a good parts truck to donate EVERYTHING under the hood to put it back to TY specs, and (don't flame me) but Im not too crazy about the old start on fire, or throw a rod 4.3 turbos anyway.
Say I was to put an LT1 in it......no hack job, but done right, cause that's how I roll, do you think it would have any resale??? If I put in a cammed LT1 done well, it would run better than stock or lightly modified TYs. Im sure I could get it to run 13.0s and knowing me I would spray it a little, making a nice low 12 second driver. Think it would be worth anything done?? If everything worked could something like that ever sell for say 9500? 9000?? It has the blue book, it's easy to loan on, hell my bank would go 15k on it tomorrow if I called them. MY other thoughts are if I really like it and want to go fast, should I ditch the heat and A/C and make it super clean under the hood. Would that KILL any resale on it?? I would never DAILY drive it, I've got other cars for that, so the A/C wouldnt matter, and I dont drive nice stuff in the winter so the heat wouldnt matter either, but if NOONE would ever buy it off me that would suck, cause I sell everything, so it would only be a matter of time.
I dunno, lemme know your thoughts guys........
