what kinda TH-350 would do?

Howdy,

I've a chance to buy a very cheap TH-350 transmission. I'm thinking to buy it, it would be nice to have a stronger tranny core option laying around. If the time comes I might try to rebuild this one instead of the 700r4. It's origin is unknow at this point, so I'd need to know what to look for. Could I make every 350 to fit the same way or are there different versions?

As far as I know I need an adapter to make the transfer case fit, a decent TC and beside these I can use the stock propshaft, driveshaft, TC cable etc. Am I right? How much would be that adapter and who makes it?

Thanks in advance,

Talk to Mike Lee (ghettosled). He is doing my transmission right now. TH350. I know that there is some sort of adapter kit but my truck will still use the same drive shafts I know that much.

Right, you would need diff shafts if the tranny was a 400
I have to look in my books for the diff kinds of 350s though

the major differance in 350's is the lockup function....very late models of the 350 had a lockup converter. but they had major problems....most rebuilders I know stay away from the 350C as it's called.

Thanks the replies guys. Ok, so I've to stay away from the late model stuff. If I'm right this means pre 80's, because lock-up came in 80, right?

Does this mean that I should go non-lockup? This is not a good news... I did a little search and I found no 350 rebuild kits, which I really liked at the first glance. Any pointers? Will drop Mike a mail...

Later,
