Bolting everything possible on the engine before dropping it in.

Had my buddy make me some little heat shields in an attempt to not melt my new poly mounts.

Re: What I've been up to this weekend. No 56k!

The pictures are in my buddy Bill's garage. I was having an intermittent problem with my fuel pump wiring a few months back that would cause the engine to die and not start up for 10-15 minutes once it got warm. While I was waiting on the side of the road with the hood up Bill drives up and started talking about my truck, mentioned he had a Syclone as well and his was also breaking down as much as it was running :)

If it's going to leave me sitting on the side of the road at least it can help me make new friends.

Not sure about Woodburn yet as my bed is still in the shop and I still don't have my cladding (supposed to be on the way, can't reach anyone to get a tracking number though, who knows). If my cladding gets here anytime soon and I can get it painted and on the truck in time then I'll definitely head out to Woodburn, otherwise I'll probably just go and watch.

i like the "H8 FORD" license plate in the backround.

and if you could add some heat wrap or something like that on those heatshields, i think it would help out some more.

What's the story with the manifolds?

You mean the coating on the headers? Swaintech White Lightning. Not as pretty as the Jet Hot but supposed to block quite a bit more heat and be more durable. We'll see.

I mean the headers in general. I'm not too familiar with any of the aftermarket exhaust options and am curious what's out there, what seems to work best and at what prices. Thanks.

Re: What I've been up to this weekend. No 56k!

Can't tell you much. I got the headers with the truck, they're Kenne Belle's and they cracked before and they'll crack again. If I had the money I'd get a set of custom made headers or some of RPM's.

I'm having some issues with them, I think that part of the reason why they have cracked is that they don't quite fit right. For the crossover to fit in the frame I need to have both sections pressed tightly together and even then it's a tight fit with some contact on the frame and steering arm. Once have to flex them some to get them in this position and tighten them down though so at that point they are constantly exerting torque on the whole system, and worse it's torque trying to pull the headers down and together, which just amplifies what the weight of the turbo is doing. I stated at it for 20 minutes today trying to figure out a solution but haven't come up with anything yet.

It'd be nice if I could put a support of some sort under the crossover pipe. If heat wasn't an issue I'd rest a poly or rubber block under it to help hold it up and deal with the weight of the turbo, and it would fix the problem of the crossover touching the frame and steering arm as well as it just barely touches them.

Considering the heat that goes through there that isn't a realistic option though. I wonder if there is another material I could use that is softer than metal but could hold up to the heat unlike rubber/poly.

Any ideas?

A wad of header wrap with a hole cut in it and a bolt through it and wedged in there? Prolly look like a hack job and would fall out as the engine moves but it might work.

Re: What I've been up to this weekend. No 56k!

Just might work. Those poly mounts are pretty stiff so I shouldn't have a ton of movement there, and the header wrap will have quite a bit of flex in there. Down side is it will look like ass so I'll have to save that idea for a last resort, not that I have any better ideas right now.

The heat shield is a good idea but you are still likely to melt the polys...

I have ATR headers and Had my mounts wrapped like crazy. Had shields and had the mounts wrapped with aluminium cloth..
Still melted them.....

SO I went with solid motor mounts.....MUCH easier to get to and no worries about melting them!!

I was about to sell my solid motor mounts but now that you've said that I think I'll hang on to them for a while and see how the poly's hold up. I don't care for the vibration of the solid mounts.

You really won't notice any more or less vibration between the solid and poly mounts. My truck has polys, all the other trucks we've built have solids. There really is no difference except that solids are way easier to work with due to lack of heat sheilds required.

If I ever have to pull the motor out of my truck again it will get solids. :2cents:

That's surprising. I bought the solids first and then picked up a set of Poly's later when I was reading about them and vibration and found another member who said he had solids, didn't like the vibration so he switched to poly's and found them to work much better.

Crap. I guess I'll know for sure next weekend.
