learn the truck inside and out, i can tell you for sure as well as many others will tell you also, the truck isnt running 100 percent correct right now i am sure of it,do a tuneup ,get a scan tool ,thermostat check intercooler pump ,hotwire it boost gauge, timming, set tv cable and the list goes on and on.

i changed the hose from the turbo to intercooler tank, changed the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. i ran it for the first time last night and i blew a head gasket. oh yea i also had the cat cut off.

thats why you needed to do what i said first, get a scan tool after you replace the headgasket,

Well with the cat cut off it probably overboosted to above 20psi I would bet.

While your truck is being fixed, the absolute best thing you could do is take the time and read as much as you can ingest from this site and archives. With all do respect, if you had done that before you cut the cat off and eventually blew the head gasket, I would bet cash money that you would not be in this situation right now. These trucks are very unique in many ways. Don't be suprised if you find additional engine damage besides the head gasket. Hope not, but be prepared. Again, read, read, read.

dont think people are being hard on you,its just new guys buy these trucks come on here and they ask ?s they get advice and still dont follow it,just fix it and start over,no biggie round 1 goes to the sy lol dont worry there will be many more ahead.sytys rule!!!

Re: what is good chip to go with?

A very common problem with these trucks is detonation and that is a good possibility with highboost / overboost and that caused the headgasket to let go. Have to look for damage on the pistons from detonation that was caused before the headgasket went south. When you are reading the site you will find a post from a member that put 87 octane fuel for one tank to try and save a few bucks and in less than that tank of fuel, he suffered piston damage and is in the process or repair. These trucks detonated the day they were new. I can't stress enough, read - read - read. Also make sure you find Tooky's new website. He has alot of good info there as well.

Re: what is good chip to go with?

there is always exceptions to the rule. i let my wife fill my ty up before we left wisconsin and ended up w/ a tank of 87 and drove all the way to missouri, course i turned my boost controller all the way down. but get a way to monitor what your comupter is doing. datamaster or a handheld that reads data streams. oh yeah if you get a mind reader obd1/2 scanner it is on there just a sub listing under jimmy

Re: what is good chip to go with?

if the truck has some miles on it you might want to put l35s on it or rebuild the ones that are on it while they are apart,or maybe a better head gasket

Re: what is good chip to go with?

One other thing that hasn't been mentioned is make good use of fellow syty owners on this site. I mean any question you have search and see what the answer is or post the question and also see if there are any syty owners local to you that have datamaster and can data log with you to ensure your truck is good enough in tune to drive or start tweaking etc. syty owners useally know there stuff because we're all forced to do our own work since no one ever knows how to do things right on these machines especially dealerships fyi
