Re: What did you do to your SY/TY today?

Working on the FMIC. Hope to finish in a couple of days.

I decided that the core support was going to need to be cut for the tubing to be routed the way I would like them.

I just couldn't bring myself to cut up the origional core support. So I went to Pull-A-Part and got a core support to modify. I love that place.

So far the support has been cut for the tubing. The old support has been removed and the modded one sitting in place.

It looks like the cold air box is going to have to go. Also I'm gonna have to find places to mount the alky pump and the MSD box since they are in the way now. I have learned with these trucks. That if one thing is changed. Two or three other things have to be moved or changed for things to work right.

Dang! I wish I would've known. I have a perfect core support sitting in the shed.

Oh well. Thats the way it goes.

I love to go to the Pull-A Part. I am always finding good parts. I picked up a great set of door panels the other day. The truck also had a nice headliner. Right color and everything.

I love that place but I never get that lucky. Keep an eye out for B-body wagons when ever you go. I need some seats and other odds and ends.

After months of delays (not the truck's fault) put the long block together today. Should finish up tomorrow. Hope to have it running next week. Sleeve type ring compressors sure make installing pistons easy!!

Re: What did you do to your SY/TY today?

Im installing RPMS Edelbrock Intake conversion with the TB facing the factory location. It took me about a hour to pull everything off. Next gotta pull the transmission and rebuild it and install Vigilantee 3500 conv. I just ran a 11.70 with a 2.5 lb launch 1.8 60ft. SLOW!!! Hopefully I can get the 60s in the 1.5 range with Hoosiers on all 4 corners! Im hoping to break into the low low 11s to high 10s with the new set up. ALL STOCK LONGBLOCK. Im pretty confident I can do it!

connected up boost control lines
replaced 90 elbow on radiator for trans - de-bluing my truck :)
replaced cracked ignition lead (boot cracked on no 1)

Finally got the alky pump and MSD moved out of the way and remounted. Also have the FMIC core mounted. That turned out well. I think it looks pretty good.

Hopefully next weekend I can get the tubing in and get this project completed.

Re: What did you do to your SY/TY today?

threw my rebuilt turbo back in today... with the new oil and coolant lines. I must say... what a difference!! Boost used to peak at 11-12psi on stock gauge and fall immediately after peak. I got a rock solid 14psi throughout the rpm range. wasted a few gallons of gas in the process.. :D

best $65 i ever spent. btw, turbo had some shaft play before rebuild. greatly reduced after new bearings.. and no more supercharger whine and howling whistle..

Re: What did you do to your SY/TY today?

I have been making steady progress on the bodywork. A few more spots to smooth out and I can put some primer on. It goes so much faster after that!

I was too busy to take pictures of the process, but my brother performed some serious rust repair on the tailgate lip. In essence, he removed the inner portion where the exterior metal wraps around, cleaned out the developing rust and made a new piece of sheet metal for it. A bit of filler to take care of the lows and it looks as good as new!

Got my short block in ( alot of room without the heads ) double checked EVERYTHING.
Had to retard cam 2 deg to get within specs ( it not hard, unless you're like me, anal.)
Using King bearings, JE severe duty pistons ( .005 piston to wall ) eagle rods, comp 422 cam.

Now i need the heads done ( port match intake, exhaust ports, install 7/16 studs, springs, ex..)

Worked on the engine compartment while the motor is out. Tomorrow will go over all of the cladding and tighten it up.

Re: What did you do to your SY/TY today?

Had to work 1/2 day but after lunch installed motor. After 5 months it's nice to see it back in there. Might be able to fire it by Friday. And for Ty 1885 I do mine -with- the heads on. If you wait to do the mounts and exhaust manifolds you can lower the motor just enough to make those top 2 bell-housing bolts easy. For me I like doing the heads with the motor on the stand. But whatever suits you is ok wit me.

I would've done it today, but had spend most of the day at the hospital with my grandma, cause her stubborn ass tried to put her christmas tree in the attic by herself.....
Besides, not like it's gonna move till march/april anyways....
