WELL I am having fun.

I just changed plugs to ngks, taylor wires, new cap/ rotor (detriot tuneup kit)hoping to fix idel miss. no dice started looking ,Well of corse if it can go wrong it will. 1 new wire was assembled poorly and was arcing out of the boot to the heat sheild on the maifold. cut the end off a brand new wire and put a spare accell end on I had around. great idels better but still not perfect. ( I could be expecting to much) went for a drive anything above 10 psi and it breaks up bad, (did not do this before) Ok I saw the coil was original and looked suspect(slight corrosion on terminal) so got a new oem GM one along with a new module. Still same thing. Now after reading I see I sould be around a .30 gap. I have mine set to .35 as this was the reccomend spec I got from a local performance shop that told me my ing had plenty of power and the .35 would make a nice big spark for good burn. Guess they are wrong. I'm done with it for today but will post what happens after tighting them up to .30 sometime tursday just lost ambition for today.

stock truck with KB ram air intake and I deleated the factory muffler with a straight pipe.

Re: WELL I am having fun.

you need to get 0.30, i had sparkblow out at 0.35 with my stocker

another post whore
Re: WELL I am having fun.

You want to be around 30-34 depending on boost. I was running 32 on 16-18lbs and it was fine. I have not tried lower then 32 but now with my alky I guess I will be running 28.

Re: WELL I am having fun.

Been in the same exact situation. Here's the list that solved the miss at idle and spark blowout.
Cap
Rotor
Wires (you've covered these)
MSD 6AL Box (this is the single biggest improvement I've ever seen in our truck hands down.)
I can get the 6AL box for around 160.00 Don't pay more!
NGK Irridium plugs gap'd at .35 (out of the box) another good choice..
Problem solved... 18psi... no poppin or missin at the stoplight!!!!!!
Hope this helps!
If anyone wants a 6AL E-mail me!

Re: WELL I am having fun.

Forgot to mention.. I got the "patch harness" from MSD to just plug and play the 6AL. No wires to cut or splice... simple install.
I mounted the 6AL in the center console under the front of the cup holders. It's the coolest place in the truck and can't be seen.
MSD (multiple Spark Discharge) stops multi sparking at 3000 with a V8 and 4500 on a V6.
Little known fact for those who have them.

Re: WELL I am having fun.

FYI: carquest has a "premium module". it costs $100+ and i have never used one so i can't say if its worth anything. guess the contacts are gold plated. the 6al box is sweet but it won't solve any problems. also sweet are the iriduim plugs but they are pricey so again make sure everything is running good before switching to them.

WELL I decides to go for another ride to get some things just got back. There is another wire arcing on the pass side from the boot over to the heat shield by the turbo support bracket. cut it put another end on now the truck runs awsome. !!! sweet but WTF on the taylor wires ?????? 2 new out of the box and bad. This one had a small piece of the winding hanging out of the boot. I never seen such shit thats a once in a lifetime thing and I got 2 in the same shot.

Re: WELL I am having fun.

yea taylors suck balls. i bought a custom msd v8 kit and made my own. you can cut them to whatever length you want. i think there is also a premade syclone set but i wanted black.

My ass. Look at it.
Re: WELL I am having fun.

Definitely use a GM coil  They actually work/last (for a change  )

Ive had ZERO issues with taylors. Good quality, definitely the cheapest performance wire set, and they last as long (if not longer) as plug wires should be expected to on these trucks. Never had a bad one but I replace my wires twice a year (it is a DD also). But then again thats been my experience with them :)

NGKur5s are pre-gapped I believe. I always check to make sure, but have never needed to re-gap them. I have had 1 bad brand new ur5 before that haunted my ignition system for a LONG time.

Re: WELL I am having fun.

Quote: "the 6al box is sweet but it won't solve any problems." I was skeptical when I put it on as well. I did not do all this at once. I wanted to see what made the biggest diffrence on the spark blowout and miss at idle.
Cap,rotor, module, and CR43TS @.35 blow out big time. Gapped down to .30 no blowout but miss.
New MSD wires.. New 43's Same problem
Blaster coil and NGK Irridum plugs. Better Idle and very little blowout but still there.
6AL box.. Dead smooth idle and no blowout. I was amazed.
It changes the duration (time) of the spark and how many times per cyl it sparks up to 4500rpm. It helps our poor combustion chamber design and our weak ignition system.
I'm satisfied with it 100%.
I asked one of the head MSD reps. about my problem before buying the parts. He was confident it'd solve it for sure. He was not a sales man and would not profit a cent from me buying a part as it would not come from him anyway.
If you don't like MSD Crane makes a good unit as do others.
I'm usto GN's with DIS so the weak spark issues with our trucks was a learning experience!
Good luck,
Scott~
