Wavering boost gauge how do I get solid boost?

When I go WOT the boost wavers between 10 and 15 psi, moving back and forth. I tried tightening the wastegate rod 2 1/2 turns but to no avail, problem persists. I remember reading some posts about people putting springs on the rod to hold it tighter. Is this a good way to fix this problem ? Do you guys think that tightening the wastegate rod even more will solve the problem ?

I agree if it is knocking it will definitely waver between 10 and 15. Do you got the Data master setup yet Nick or are you borrowing MadPSI's yet? How warm is the weather there too, that seems to have a big effect on my boost control. Colder air makes boost much better controlled than warm air on my truck. I would like to wire the stock WG shut and just use an external eventually, it seems like that way is rock-solid flat-line boost compared to the jimmy rigged stock setup.

A stiffer actuator will cure your problem if your not knocking too badly. I consider unstable boost the #2 reason for poor performance on a stock truck.

As a matter of a fact it is knocking alot! I am getting up to 10 degrees of knock retard on datamaster. I think i found out why. Mt timing is set like 10 degrees advanced. I cant for the life of me get the god damn bolt loose to adjust the timing. Due to its location, i think i have to take it to a shop and pay them alot to get it out. So knock causes unstable boost? If this is true, then that is probably my poroblem. I am looking for a good place (cheap) to get the timing done...I will get back to you guys after i get this done, and tell you how the boost is doing!

Save yourself some money and take a bunch of the crap off and out of the way until you can get a good wrench onto the bolt and get it loose. Break it free and snug it back down until you can barely turn the distributor. Put all of the crap back on and set the timing. You can get back into it to tighten the bolt some more then.

To get to my distributor bolt, I removed the cap first, then using a 9/16 socket, 1/4" drive and a 6" extention with the end that goes into the socket made kinda rounded to swivel in the socket and a ratchet. It is a bitch though.

You could buy a distributor bolt wrench, they can't be more than $7 or so... Definitely cheaper than taking it somewhere and you have the tool for future use!

Bought the distributor wrench, but when I finally get it on the bolt its against the fuel rail with no room to turn.

ya tried the wrench, that fucker is on there though!!I am going to try the take everything off, until i can get it teqnique.
will let you all know what happens. I am glad i know that knock causes wavering boost.

From what I have seen on DataMaster, the ECM with stock chip will reduce desired boost from target 14.3 PSI down by 1.0 PSI decrements for each time you knock badly like 8* or more. If you continue to sustain high knock it will continue to drop target PSI all the way down to 0.0 PSI but because of base boost level allowed by wastegate, the minimum you can truly run at WOT will be something around 10.0 PSI.
