Wastegate Rod where it connects to turbo/overboosting

I have to be honest. I have owned my ty for about 5 years ( 2years currently running and put back together), and I have never really boost launched or "got on it". I think I am a little afraid as I do not want to blow something up. I know, stupid thinking.
But I am trying to get over my fears. I noticed that when driving it to carslisle, I would get boost, no issues with the new Forge Wastegate. I followed the instructions for adjustement http://www.tuneyfish.com/video_player.php?vid=235
but, when I would be doing about 60 and hit the gas, it would over boost.
I also tried to do a boost launch, but it really overboosted. I shut it down because I was scared of blowing it up. I have a basic stock truck (other than the ultimate radar style, 3 bar map). I would really like to be able to fix this (I try to work on it myself rather than sending it somewhere - I would love to send it somewhere to figure this out, but my pockets aren't that deep right now.
So, in the video above, I noticed that where the rod connects to the "arm" coming off of the turbo, the arm in the video moves. Mine does not. Could this be the issue? (around the 30 second mark you will see him move it).
I had it adjusted like in teh video, and it was overboost/spiking.

Is this your bush?

What kind of wastgate actuator do you utilize for your turbo?

Sounds like your wastegate rod is adjusted too tight. It's supposted to move out opening the puck to bleed off exhaust. Try to adjust the rod and make it longer.

If the "arm" coming off the turbo doesn't move then that's your problem. If you disconnect the actuator rod from that arm it should move freely towards the firewall and stop when pulled towards the radiator. If you look at the side of the turbo, with rod disconnected the arm should move freely from 6 o'clock to about 8 o'clock position.

What does that arm do? How can I fix that?

These pics show the arm and "flapper" it connects to. As for freeing it up, you could try WD40 and working it back and forth. I would guess it has rusted from sitting.

Thanks! I sprayed some PB Blaster, let it sit for about 4 hours, and it moves nicely. Going out to test it now.

Glad you found this problem and were smart enough to trust your instinct. This is one reason that many trucks blow up. It's a great idea to give that rod a wiggle every once and a while to make sure the wastegate doesn't seize, that goes for every truck, but especially if they sit a lot.
