wastegate adjustment and the ultimate

quick question...
im in the process of adjusting the wastegate.... if i tighten the rod too far, but have my ultimate set on... say T1-16, will the ultimate tell the ECM to only boost to 16psi? or does the wastegate override that and cause me too overboost if the rod is too tight? id like to get a solid 20psi, but i dont think its gonna happen with the stock gate.

also im only geting about 12psi in first gear, once it shifts into 2nd and the rpms climb, then the boost starts to go up past 12... whats the deal with that?

I'm in the same boat, I had it set at 15 psi on the stock chip and tune up (this was in Italy, and gas wasn't as good a quality) and now w/ everything tuned, decent gas and the ultimate in i'm not pushing as much boost (11-13psi). I'm gonna set the chip for T1-15 and adjust my rod until it's a solid 15 with that setting and see what happens from there. I think it should step up as the chip determines the level.
Good luck :)

the chip will alwasy try to command the boost you have it set to. but both of you are having classic stock boost control problems. set it to one boost level in the chip and adjust the wg rod until you get as close as you can.

well after more tests and burning the shit outta my fingers... ive got the rod set to hold 20psi kinda steady haha well lets just say it doesnt go past 20. i had the chip set to T1-20 and got 20psi... then set the chip to T1-16 and barely creeped past 17psi... so i think the ultimate does a pretty good job as a boost controller. but i gotta say a new ext WG is lookin better and better for acheiving fast solid boost. no control with the stock WG boost is inconsistant and all over the place... whats the ballpark total on the entire ext WG setup? meaning the WG itself, the new crossover, welding labor etc etc etc?

You can also try springs on the WG rod to help with boost control....works for some people... if the rod is loose to lessen the boost - it starts to open sooner and can effectively limit boost in lower gears where the truck is not loaded as heavily .

For an external - Talk to Mike Lee from AR. He can hook you up on a WG and get it mounted. The advantage of using him vs just some shop - is - he knows the trucks...
