Re: Vote on a cam

With me (don't know how the new build will work) it's all about launch RPM. I actually do better around 2000-2200 than higher RPM. Don't know if that helps.

Don,
not sure if you are allowed to modify your intercooler?

But if you can, you can improve the flow of the intercooler greatly, if you make it have a 2.5" inlet.
It is really a huge improvement on flow

This mod would really benefit you more so w/you having the 96 & newer ported Vortec heads.

If you had stock heads, you would not see much gain since the stock heads are the restriction.

Just a thought.

Cool. I had not heard that one before. Pic anyone?

Allowed by whom? I already have a modified turbo which techinically requires a jacket. Just that no one's caught on. I don't see why I can't modify the IC. Unless that clues them to the modified turbo eh?:rotf:

My friend here had one modified.
He did a before & after test on a flow bench tester, like I said, huge improvement!
I'll try & see if he can send me a pic so I could post it here.

The stock intercooler inlet necks down even smaller than the 2" inlet if you look @ it.

I was just saying whatever class you run in, they allow for modifications?
I do not know what class you run in.

I thought your turbo has a bright shiny anodized blue center section? That's a big clue right there?:rotf:

I thought the rules say if your car is an original turbo car & using the stock turbo, you do not need a jacket.? I don't know for sure though.

I've looked at that inlet but never gave it much thought. You got me thinkin' now.

Normally I race in Sport Street on Wednesdays and Sportsman on weekends. Wed races occur much more often then weekends. Both classes are limited to 12.0 sec. If I start going quicker I would change to Comp on Weds and Pro on weekends.

NHRA says (without a re-read) that stock turbos in the stock location are fine. I don't think they care where the air goes after that. A modified turbo and/or modified location requires a single layer jacket. After that I think it depends on how quick you go and/or what class you're in. I'd have to research it.

I have yet to figure out exactly the rules on 2 steps and how it applies in the different classes.
