I am a new member to the forum, just picked up my ty, Black/Black/#0013 with 39,000 miles, man I love this thing. Anyways my best friend just crashed his 97 s10 and he said he would give me his Ported & Polished Vortec's for free if I did some machine work on his Jet Ski engine. My question is, if I put these on my ty which is basically stock exept for a borla cat back and a K&N cone would I need to make any other upgrades or can I just slap them on and go. I am aware of the modifications that have to be done to the Lower intake and all. Just curious, I have 0 experience with the sy/ty engine. Thanks

I'm sure there's something, but good luck getting them to work out, because those things are WAY better than the stock heads

you WILL have to rechip the motor. the calibration for stock is way different than it is for vortec in many aspects. you must also be aware that your CR will raise and thats not a good thing for those stock pistons. but the upside is you will be less likly to detonate from the new chamber design.

try it.. it's worth it.

you could probably get away with it, but your overall boost pressure will probably drop (high volume low pressure versus low volume lowpressure) The heads are also safer to use from a preignition standpoint. Keep in mind this is my opinion now, not granite carved fact or anything and your milage may vary. To really extract the power from these heads you'll probably want a different turbo, a different set of fuel injectors an Ultimate chip and a few other goodies (50s should give room to grow, 40s are a waste of time and 70s or higher if you're gonna go all out eventually) Since it sounds like you can get a hell of a deal on em, my vote is pick the heads up and stow em at the very least, because there WILL come the day you're not satisfied with the speed of your ty. If it were me I'd probably end up throwing stainless steel exhaust valves in em while they were off, just a bit of added protection. That's cause going fast is like coke, it drains your bank account and is highly addictive =) Far as the 50# injectors go, try the buy/sell/trade area, it seems like there are always people upgrading to 72s or similar size injectors, and you'll see Ultimates on there quite a bit as well usually at bargain prices.

Thanks for the assistance guys. I'll just hold off on installing them for right now until I have the correct build to accept them. Alot of time has been saved, thanks again.
