Vortec Intake Oil Leak

Re: Vortec Intake Oil Leak

Update: the Sy is fixed and not leaking a drop of anything. I drove it for 45 minutes tonight and it was a great feeling cruising around in the Sy again :) She runs super strong at only 15.5psi with 100 octane...I can't imagine what it's going to be capable of at 20+ psi with meth spray. Going to take it to the track in a few weeks and see if I can bust into the 10s and get kicked out LOL.

Great news. If yur talkin' Infineon remember that except for Aug 5th there is NO Wed night racing in Aug. I can't make it the 5th so my next trip will be Sept 2nd. Hope to see you there. Maybe we can do a "grudge" race. 2 Sy's on the line would be way cool.

They run NHRA rules so 11.50 is it. Quicker and you need bars.

Sweet. Great news to hear. Hope she goes well at the track. Just curious how it feels with 15 psi? Does it feel stonger than before when you were pushing the stock motor?

Let me know,

Re: Vortec Intake Oil Leak

I drove it to work today. It feels plain vicious at only 15-16psi. I'm running 100 unleaded with no meth spray at the moment. I need to get in touch with Nolan to finish tuning it for max power. The 80e still needs to be tuned also as the shift points aren't completely dialed in yet. It feels much faster than it used to with the stock motor at 25psi and that slipping 700R4 I had. I was running 11.9s with that setup and it would never do a four wheel burnout across an entire intersection before :)

Right on Don - will try to make it September 2nd. I haven't been up there in ages. A Sy vs. Sy grudge race would be awesome, but I'm pretty sure I'll get kicked out after my first pass LOL. Maybe I'll backpedal the first few runs to gauge what it's capable of first. Will definitely bring the camcorder.

Re: Vortec Intake Oil Leak

There is a torque sequence specified in the manual that I’ll try to explain. Counting from the front bolts are numbered:

Pas front 12 5 4 2 7 10

Drivers front 11 6 1 3 8 9

So is this picture right?

BTW, great looking lower intake.

Re: Vortec Intake Oil Leak

That's not what my Hanes manual shows. Regardless of pattern/sequence, I always go slowly and tighten them all down in even increments. It doesn't leak a drop of anything now, so happy to have fixed that problem...what a nightmare having to pull the intake twice for stupid BS mistakes.

That's correct. But notice, if you will, that the sequence starts in the middle and works its way to the ends. I've never seen a sequence that didn't do that, head, manifold, whatever. At 35# total a 2 step sequence is what I would use.

And while it's off drill and tap that boss next to #11 for a temp ga. Even if you plug it it'll be there when you need it.

And yes, nice manifold.
