Vacuum ball

I was wondering what the pros and cons are to removing the vacuum ball under the stock battery tray. I want to do this because I want to drop my batter down so I can run a K&N off the turbo. I read a few people removed the ball completly and capped the T, will this hurt anything? I am running a stock motor with a Waller hybrid 57 turbo when I get it back from him? Also I was wondering if I should or can do a EGR block off anf what the pros and cons of that are also? Thanks.

Re: Vacuum ball

Con is under boost the heater control might not switch until you get back into vacuum.

Thats it.

Re: Vacuum ball

You can remove it without any ill effects... what it does is basically stores vacuum in reserve so that you can use your cruise control and ac controls while under boost.

EGR delete is popular but it isn't as simple as just unbolting the egr valve, vac lines, and solenoid. You have to also disable the egr function within the chip or your truck will throw an error code (some don't but most do)

Re: Vacuum ball

I deleted my vacuum ball eight or so years ago with NO issues. HVAC and cruise all still work fine. When I redid my vacuum lines, I completely removed the line that went to it. I also got rid of the vacuum line that went to the EGR solenoid too.

As mentioned above, removing the EGR is a little more involved if you want to do it *right*. If you have emissions where you live, you won't pass a visual inspection with it missing... By blocking it off, your intake temps will drop at least 30-40 degrees since you won't be reintroducing hot exhaust gases into the engine. A cool engine is a happy engine.

If this is true, why are the vac balls in non boosted vehicles?

Wouldn't you feel let down and ripped off if you bought a car and not only found out that it didn't have a turbo and nice horsepower that comes along with it, but your car didn't even have any balls?

So they work at WOT when their is almost no vacuum and when the engine is off.

Re: Vacuum ball

I pulled one from a 98 Astro van. It's half the size and I mounted it on the other side where my ABS use to be. This way I get to keep the ball and eliminate 6+ feet of vaccum hose!

Re: Vacuum ball

The way I see it:
If you have have time to fiddle withe the heater and cruse control while under boost, YOU AINT GOING FAST ENOGH !!!!
If its a concern, leave well enough alone! If its in the way, move it! If you can't bolt it there ZIP-TIE IT

Re: Vacuum ball

pulled mine over the weekend trying to figure out a new intake. No problems to report except a little reclaimed space. Its for sale if anyone "needs?" it. Some people, like chevelledude, use the old vac line from a blow off valve!
