Using a 2nd gen rear end

Curious, has anyone just purchased a 2nd gen rear with the correct gear ratio that has the brake rotors and calipers already installed instead of doing a swap from drums on their factory rear?
I see a bunch locally for around 200-300$. Havent seen a 8.5, but I am looking (see a bunch of ZR2 rears, but no reg. 4wd).

Yes I did on my typhoon, came out of a xtreme.
Correct gear ratio and disk, but the width was shorter and had to buy spacers

That means it was a 2WD rear.
What the OP needs to find is a rear out of a 98 or newer S10 with 4WD and stick shift that should give you 3.42 (GU6) and an 8.5" ring gear

Can you use a normal rear from a blazer, (I think it is like ours 7.625 rear?)

Yes, but the spring pads are differant. On Blazer rears the spring pads extend forward to include a stop surface for big bumper located in the wheel well to hit.
How far are you from any of the Crazy Ray's yards? They normally have a bunch of S10 Blazer

Good info, Can you change the spring pads, or cut them to fit? Just curious as I see alot out there for cheap (relatively)

you could change the spring pads if you wanted to I just put them in, the way they came out of the Blazer.

If you're asking about the spring pads, they're welded on

I found two of the V6 5 speed 99-00 Blazers. 8.5 rears with disk brakes. I got them for $80 each. 3:42 gears. Too bad I got to use a two inch spacer on each side to use my stock wheels. But I will manage.

Maybe the blazer rear end is the answer to not being able to run fat lip wheels on the rear of the truck, some 17x11 with a slight negative offset would be awesome on these.
