The only thing about cast parts is they dont "give"
That's the truth.
Here's a funny story.
I had a local "performance" shop replace the gearset in my '93 Z28 (it was missing 2 teeth off the pinion). Had them install new gears, a zexel torsen, fresh bearings & seals, ARP ring gear bolts, pretty SLP alum cover (with preload bolts and all), pretty much everything except the housing and axle shafts.
The a$$munches didn't use any form of locking compound on the ring gear bolts. Not even sure they torqued them down, quite honestly.
Y'know how I found out? Was driving along, and heard this loud bang. Was close to home, and it was still running / driving, so I figured I'd nurse it home and then look at it there. Put it in the garage, went in and changed my clothes. Came out and found a lake of 80W90 under the car.
Upon further inspection, several of the ring gear bolts were loose (like 8 of 10) and one of them had come out completely, gotten to just the right spot (between the ring gear and the rear cover) and got spit out the back (through the rear cover).
Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.....
