ultimate

well after reading over some posts about knock I figured I would look at how my ultimate was seated. Found out it was halfway seated which was probably causing the knock at partial throttle. After I properly seated it the check engine light came on and did not go off. I got a code 34 ( weak map sensor). So I cleared it and started it back up. It idles real ruff now. When I went to put it in sec mode to shut it off it kept running. All of the settings don't work now. This makes me think what chip is really make my truck run right now. Oh and the led knock light still flashes like it did before at partial throttle. I don't get how after I properly seat the chip it would do this. I pulled the ecm b fuse and It still the same. I checked for loose wires around the ecu and nothing. Is there a way to determine if its the chip, map sensor, or some other electrical problem.

any suggestions

Re: ultimate

Take another look at the Ultimate. 1st: It has a notch on one end that has to correspond to a similar notch on the socket. 2nd: make ABSOULTY SURE you don't have any bent/touching pins. It is unbelievably easy to bend, or heaven forbid, break, the pins on the chip.

Re: ultimate

all of the pins are in perfect shape. I dont understand the notch corresponding thing. is that the connection from the ultimate to the stock chip or the ultimate to the ecu box.

Look at the Ultimate chip itself. It will have a notch on one end. Look carefully at the carrier or socket and it will have a notch as well. Notch may not be the right word, but it's a little kinda crescent moon shaped cut if that helps. If the chip is in backwards it will hardly run at idle and die when you step on it so I suspect it's in correctly but worth checking since it only takes a few minutes.

Re: ultimate

I checked looks alright. I just drove the truck. It runs fine I just dont know what setting Iam in and the fact it won't turn off in sec mode. Before this even happen sometimes the chip would act wierd especially when lock and unlocking it. When I would push the toggle buttons to lock or unlock it sometimes it would spell weird letters and quite a few times I would lock it in sec mode and the next day it would be locked in T3 24. Idont know but I think the chip might be at fault but Iam not 100% sure

Re: ultimate

If you haven't done it already pull both ECM fuses for a few seconds and let it reset.

Re: ultimate

After looking at everything I could look at I noticed something about my stock chip. You know that clear coated jelly substance on the right side of the chip where it piggybacks to the ultimate. Well It appears to me that its melting. It sounds weird but thats what it looks like. Could my stock chip be messed up. Its a AYBN 4175 16164174 chip. Could this be why my ultimate is not working

Re: ultimate

could someone tell me if a bad stock chip could cause me to lose the controls of the ultimate. What is the function of the stock chip when piggybacked to the ultimate

Re: ultimate

Well in desperate effort the last thing I tried was I removed the stock chip from the ultimate. I just had the ultimate in the ecu and fired it up real quick to see if it would shut down when I toggled it to sec mode. It still won't shut down. I have no clue why I can't control my ultimate anymore with the guage display. Any Ideas

Re: ultimate

Id say it has probably been hut by some static electricity from when you were pulling the chip in and out. You need to pull the ECM a and b fuse before ytou even touch the ECM and touch some metal to alliviate any static. It doesnt take much.

Id say remove the ultimate all together and just reinstall th stock chip and make sure it runs like that.

True. Electro-static discharge can reach 10,000 volts. Small amperage, but enough to nuke program parts. When I get an ultimate chip or whatever I choose to run in my truck, I'm bringing my entire ECM into work. We have ESD mats, wrist straps, smocks. ESD is serious business.

Re: ultimate

I just got the chip back from todd. He told me that the cable from the gauge to the ultimate was frayed. So he taped it up. I just hooked it up in my truck and it works perfect now

Big thanks to Todd

Re: ultimate

intersting.

My ultimate also does not shut off the truck when in sec mode. However in valet it hit limiter wayyy early (like it is supposed to), and you can tell a major difference if I swap it over to T2 for a few minutes. I suppose my truck has had the fuel pump hard wired or something ?

uhhh.... yeah....
Re: ultimate

so with the ultimate will it act funny with a racetronix kit? my truck runs really really rich

Re: ultimate

it was a common problem a while back for some of the ultimates to cycle thru the programs quickly and end up on different settings when you come back to them, not sure what the problem was but todd got it all fixed. I wish I had seen this post eariler and I woulda told you to get in touch with him from the start. sounded like something that I and hood experianced back in the day.
