Lucky on the rust. What are you going to do with all the aftermarket parts when you take them off

Re: Typhoon Project

I know the bumper is in rough shape. The support is aluminium behind it so it's very resilient. Not like steel where the bend stays. The support is probably racked pretty hard and causing the support to tweak.

My last alum support I could bend the dings out with my hands

I pulled some parts off and sold them. I'm waiting to settle on a house/property so I can drag it over there. Its still chained down on the trailer.

You can see that there is minimal rust or rust bubbling. Even behind the missing rear corner the metal is solid as photoed.

Rackless, pretty clean up top too. No rust bubbling @ the rear window either.

Re: Typhoon Project

I purchased a full set of wheels last week, will be preparing to put them on some time?

And also started to get engine rebuild materials together. Going through boxes and bins of stuff got a lot to use up.

I dropped my extra typhoon block off at a different engine builder about 2 weeks ago for a check up. Still haven't heard a peep from him. Basically just waiting on him to relay the condition of block, if I need a over bore, bearing sizes..

Did some basic tests on the cylinder heads I removed and the valves are not seating. They will also need to be refreshed. I sprayed some brake cleaner through each port and saw seeping.

Re: Typhoon Project

I ended up gathering alll the components for a engine rebuild and last week I stopped into the shop and told the builder to hold off on performing any work. I took him my 1993 Typhoon block for a re-fresh. He said the crank was in very good shape, std size bearings, and the rods as well. That perticular block needs to be bored out to .030 and I have all the pistons. Too bad I had a gut feeling and held off on him spending my money- I simply told him lets wait a week I need a good oppertunity to work on the truck and make some diagnoses.

I spoke to my dad about the truck and he gave me a few ideas. He sugggested that I put some oil in the truck (dipstick tube is severed/rotted at bottom) cant get a dipstick down the tube. He also notice that the waterpump was not turning any fluids and the sensors were probably not working. I had a spare alternator bracket I put on. one on the truck was snapped and broke ( hard to imagine what happned) After I got the bracket on I was able to run the truck and observe more things going wrong. I unchained the truck from the tailer and went to town on it. Jacked it up to removed front wheels and start pulling plugs. First plug I pulled was like I never seen before. all gunked up with build up. I than discovered plug #1 boot was melted causing that cylinder to misfire. I had NGK plugs i wasnt a fan of I pulled out of my syclone early on and poped them in. I replaced the plugs and 1 wire and truck has a night and day difference. No lag. stumble or hesitation. I shot the timing and it was spot on. I am pretty excited because I thought the engine was toast. Now Im not up against that and can move directly on to other things.I also Started to put the correct wheels on beginning with the rear. A board member also pointed out how there is no rear wiper on my rear glass... I thought they all had them? Never pay attention.

Re: Typhoon Project

Most of the time I work on the truck it turns into a playground. Sometimes its hard to get something done.

I turned the playground back into a work zone. Gave her a cup to collect coins/change from the interior and I tried to wipe stuff down. As soon as I started doing that she grabbed the spray bottle and started detailing things to her own liking...

Looks like you've got an earlier rear window, with the frame around the edge. Original glass would be frameless, and most likely had a wiper.

Re: Typhoon Project

It didn't have a rear wiper switch. It was a blank plate or an interior block off switch plate.

I'm guessing it was ordered that way.

All Z79's had rear wiper and a frame-less window. There were no "options" available other than colors, roof rack, and CD player. No deletions from standard content were available either..

Somebody changed the window and put a blank-off plate in the switch location.

Re: Typhoon Project

Seems strange. The blank off plate of same color as interior. Only reason " I thought" it was ordered.

Chances of finding a argent silver color blank switch plate in a local yard seem slim. ( mine has been hollowed out for a custom switch).

Thanks for clearing that up DaveP, shows how much I know ha ha...

Re: Typhoon Project

Decided to do a few maitnence things. Popped off the valve cover to inspect the rockers. Everything was OK. Heard this nasty tap/ticking and squeal during idle. I should have know better there was another problem. I did begin to chase the noise but quickly recovered from wasting time. The alternator bearing was shot. I had this spare delco alternator on the shelf I decided to put on and imagine that the squeak went away. No more spraying stuff aimlessly.

I also pumped/purged the upper cooler now that its off and out of the way. I just hooked a hose up to one top barb and pumped it multiple ways into a clean 5 gallon bucket. There was a lot of sediment and junk in there. Glad that got done. I will revise the lines next, and pump the lower cooler.

Got word on my stock injectors in regards to the sy137a chip. they will be in sometime next week. Sent them out to be cleaned and flowed from a member in Alaska. Had the injectors from a spare engine and figured I would re-use them eventually. Hoping they cooperate with the chip. Its a lot of work to break down fuel system and swap injectors. I'll leave the engine bay broken down so I can do a easy install of the stock injectors.

There's a few other little things I need like correct pcv valves, possibly some new vac lines. Might invest I'm them while I'm at this stage.

For the $2800 I paied for the truck you can't beat it with a bat.

Re: Typhoon Project

Went to town like a crazy animal on truck this afternoon.

One minute the truck was dull as shit, and I had a vision. ( vision was should shine like syclone ) :rotf:

Next thing you know Me and my little helper were so happy with the results the pics show all.

On the same token, I was able to knock out the upper and lower ball joints and install new axles. I did one side one day.. About 2.5 hour job with a trip out because the ****head behind the counter is a dumb**** and gave me the wrong part. Knocked the other sidr out yesterday. Next week I'll attack the " broken transfer case "

I also called the kid I bought truck from. I been on him like a fly on shit about the front arches he never included. And I was irritated how the pass. Rear corner looks kicked off... I really was bothered by it I had to put another call in.. He said he has it. Imagine that..will I ever get it? Probably not.

I did ask him about truck and he had no clue about anything. I said yo man I found a chip... He's like huh? He had no idea.. The only new info I got from him was " its got a bigger cam"..now I get to figure that out.. And most of which why I think it could be running bad. Combo of a few ppl that aren't sure wtf is going on under the hood. I know the little one does. She's 100% hands on

Code what?
Congrats on you landing the sale, I read it twice to be sure. You mentioned the Ty has a bad transfercase. You mentioned having a beefed up spare from a Syclone, just thought I'd mention that the Sy case has a different output shaft spline/size so swapping over cases might not be as easy as planned. Goodluck with the truck!

Re: Typhoon Project

The beefed up one was a typhoon case to begin with. It came with my syclone when I bought it. The owner had big plans abd told me that was a big power upgrade. At the time I did not know a lot.. I held on to it for some time now. 2 or more years. I was recently going to use it on the syclone.. But decided that if I ever get the typhoon it will go right in. I should be able to bang that out no problem now that I spent 6 mons under the syclone.

Thanks for the tip tho. I know you know your stuff we discussed transmission on the phone a while back.

Re: Typhoon Project

Yes, I had a serious TAP up top and wanted to make sure there was nothing out of adjustment or broke. it came from that side ( was more audible) so I took cover off and saw the comp cams roller rockers. Tells me there are some other aftermarket parts inside. I met up with the previous KID owner yesterday who sold the truck to me. He hand delivered one of the parts. ( still need 2 more) He did tell me who ever built the engine put a upgrade cam in. He said its slightly bigger than the stock cam . My first thought was a comp 412. I am pretty sure the TAP was the injectors tapping. not sure why so loud but I am thinking the fuel rail is not adjusted properly, causing the injectors to tick. Theres a way to fix that, but I am still waiting on the info to be sure..

Im not sure of any cams that dont require a recalibrated chip for a cam. I do know some cams need upgraded MAP sensors. ( had to put a 3 bar in for my comp 412 on syclone)

The SY137A chip calls for a stock 2 bar. I am not sure if there is any conflicting issues here as the chip may have never been updated? or has been in there for a long time and no one knew? went through a engine build and never ran right because of the chips current tune?
