Typhoon Dies Under Boost or Load

Re: Typhoon Dies Under Boost or Load

Do you have a ALDL cable? What are you AFR's? If you need to borrow a ALDL cable let me know I also have a Spare ECM I can send you to Test with. My guess is Vac Leak or Bad ECM. When I changed my Vac lines they were literally falling apart in my Hand. I had over 30 pieces when I swapped for a new set of SPORTSMACHINES vac LInes. Easy to read there Documentation and High Quality.

You try a Different ECM? Possibly overboosting and the ECM shutting down. just Vac lines leading from your boost solenoid to Wastgate securely connect? no Holes or rotting. When Your driving it does the boost get pegged? before shutdown? T

I have not tried a different ECM. I don't think it's overboosting though. It shuts down before it gets into the boost at all. I have only driven it around my driveway since this issue started.

I will check the vacuum line from the boost solenoid to the wastegate tomorrow morning and report back.

Here's a video from inside when it happens.

Forgive me, but I'm not sure what an ALDL cable is. I'm guessing it's a cable that plugs into the ALDL port though. :) I don't know my AFRs, but I can get a wide band, since I'll probably have to one day anyway. I've heard about the great quality lines Sportmachines makes. I think it's time to get a hold of them.

Re: Typhoon Dies Under Boost or Load

This is what I would do. In this order. Just my 2 cents.

1. Check your plug Fireing order
2. Check Vac lines
3. Check O2 sensor. "possibly reason for running rich, get a laptop and plugin check your idle afr's"
3. Change ECM. "Re-insert Prom Check all connections are firmly in place."

Re: Typhoon Dies Under Boost or Load

I will do those tomorrow morning. Except checking my AFRs. Is that the cable you're talking about? Borrowing one would be great, but if I should buy one, I certainly will. I just need a bit more info on it.

Re: Typhoon Dies Under Boost or Load

I finally had the chance to get the vacuum hose kit installed this weekend. Long story short, not much change. Long story long...

I ordered an ALDL USB cable, but they sent me a serial cable instead. I didn't find that out till this weekend. I didn't notice anything glaring as I was taking the stock vacuum hoses off, and the silicone hoses went on without a hitch. As soon as I got everything buttoned back up, I started the truck. It started right up, high idle was good, the exhaust smelled normal and there was no CEL. However, as soon as the O2 kicked on and it tried to idle down, the truck died. I restarted it and it idled just fine, but the code 34 was back, and so was the rich condition. I checked over all the vacuum connections, but they were all still in place. The truck wouldn't start when I tried again, so I shot a touch of starting fluid into it and it fired right up and idled just fine. I checked the fuel pressure again, and while the pump priming, it has ~40psi, but as soon as the prime is done, the fp drops to less than 10psi. That part is new since I last checked the fp. When the engine is cranking, the pressure goes right back up to 40psi, and maintains that while idling too. Goosing the throttle a bit causes the engine to stumble, and it did die once doing that too.

I just got a copy of the SyTy service manual supplement, so I'll be looking through that this evening. I'm going to post an ad for an ALDL cable in the WTB section.

I also rechecked the firing order and the ECM connections.
