Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

Priceless

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

Price is very reasonable for the amount of work. I'd be in for one on the Syclone. I need to replace the rear suspension anyways.

Should have more details mid/late april but it is coming. Our local JSM Jeremy has agreed to become a test victim for us.

That 4 link looks so good. I am so upset that I don't have the cash for it right now.

also waiting for the syclone version.

are you going for a reverse triangulated design on the upper arms? or some sort of 3 link system?
space is very limited - just one centerd straight upper link for pinion angle and a whatts link for side to side stability could also work...

We are looking at a few options and when we get the test truck up on the rack we can make the final decision. I did several years ago do 4 link on a syclone that was weld in, but it required the gas tank to be modified, which I would rather not do if possible.

Right now we need to make sure the current customers who have placed orders are taken care of, being this isn't a full time adventure just adds complexity but we are making strides to move forward.

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

What front coil-overs is this Ty using?

I bought the front coil over kit from sportmachines last year and also purchased the AFCO rear shocks. Just wondering if I should sell the rear AFCO's and go with the Vikings in this kit.

Front's are my design arms which is what sportmachines builds also since I provided them with fixtures and drawings.

As far as rear, any shock can be made to work. I have not tested the afco for size, etc so will be not be able to provide much support on the shock/spring side. We do know and can support the Viking side, but others can be made to work.

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

The c209 is too short in my opinion. Technically, it would bolt in, but by the time you preload the 12" spring a little the clearance between the cladding and tire would be dangerously tight. With 3 inches set between the tire and the cladding there is 17 inches from mount to mount on the four link, which is why we choose the 219. The recommended max ride height for the c209 is 15 1/8, so you're 7/8 off the cladding by the time you sit the truck on the ground. Now, if the shocks are stupid cheap you could make a bracket decreasing the distance between the shock mounts, a "shock spacer" the list of reasons I don't recommend this could be a book on suspension design. Email me at JSMachineandfab.com for a good price on the right shocks.

Thank you, but the price is not that cheap, that it would be worth of modifying them as you described.
So - will buy new springs from you, when ordering a kit next time.

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

First several kits shipped Monday, some more going out today. Right now we have 3 kits under production going to inventory. This will be an on going production run, but at some point we will have to move to the syclone kit development timeframe, limiting manufacturing time during that stage.

I am hopefully with the first kits arriving today that we can get some good feedback and reviews coming in.

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

I can't wait to receive my kit!! TY is all jacked up and ready for the swap

Started on parts ear marked specific to your yesterday, with plans to finish it up in a week or so. Parts being ordered today also.

I have another batch of rear going out today from the initial orders. I believe I have enough parts on hand for 1 or 2 that are not spoken for, and plan to get some more parts on the way for a few more for inventory. Good news is this marks real close turning point to where the syclone test vehicle will be brought in to the shop.

I will say I have 2 weekends in May that will be consumed with my day job for 1, and my fledging top fuel motorcycle pit crew job. If anybody is in Denver May 21st come see us at the track. We can talk motorcycles, suspensions, or how Dave Alwine is a typhoon sell out and make fun of him.

Thanks for everyones orders, patience, and support. It is becoming an adventure once again with some new ides in the works for the future.

Not wanting to swamp JSM with more orders, but I have to say my installation is a total success. I've owned my Ty for 23 years and it has never ridden or handled this well. For daily drive, all 4 shocks are set on the soft side, 0 clicks compression and 4 clicks rebound, but everything still seems well controlled. Much quieter ride, small bumps in the road are barely felt, and yet it corners better than ever. I'll work my way up from there until it feels too stiff. But if this is the best it gets, I'll be perfectly happy.

Glad to see more updates Peter. Mike and myself first developed this about 2 years ago and sat on design, tested it, and just wanted to make sure we were ready to release this as with any product it is a LOT of work for such a small market. Building 1 sounds fun, building multiple is a new story for sure.

The design would be a failure if it did nothing but empty wallets, so performance was HIGH priority. I have studied suspensions in details dating back into the 90's and knew we could do something better than factory. I can't wait to see some of the kits shipped last week get installed and tested some more.

www.jsmachineandfab.com will be updated as we introduce new products, and information. We spent a lot of time and effort on boxing also, and hope it is helpful for everyone with bolts packaged, full instructions, tips, etc.
