Typhoon #747 Revival

One of the many things this 93 Ty needed when I purchased it was a good wetsand and buff. There was also a lot of overspray from the newish paint job, underneath the truck, and especially on all of the rubber, mirrors, handles, etc.. Luckily the previous owner gave me all NIB OEM weatherstripping to install.

So far, I wetsanded and buffed both doors. I've also installed new window channels, door seals, and outside window seals. The mirrors received a fresh coat of Duplicolor trim paint. The handles were removed and powdercoated satin black. The key cylinders received a coat of SEM satin black to match.

The rear defrost was inop and the rear glass desperately needed some Viagra. So I installed new struts, and soldered new leads for the defrost, as the old leads were missing entirely. The hinges and wiper arms (fronts too) were faded so they received some satin black powdercoat and SEM paint.

So far the result are great! I've also removed the roof rack and I refinished the plastic pieces with Duplicolor trim paint and the metal pieces were powdercoated texture black. I am waiting to wetsand and buff the roof and then I can reinstall the roof rack. I'll post photos of that when it's finished.

Stay tuned as the restoration continues!

Previous owner Stuart lived in the Northwest. I tried contacting him to find out more about the truck, but he didn't respond.

I'm sure one of the previous owner was "Fred" or "Buck" as I knew him. He was a bee keeper.

Re: Typhoon #747 Revival

Hey that typhoon was my old truck. I was the 2nd owner, it was originally a CA car.

I bought it in February of 2000, from a small dealer in Santa Monica CA, had 33k miles on it at the time. The original owner used it as a show car for his stereo business.

I kept it until January of 2001 when I sold it to a dealer/collector in Huntington Beach CA. It was then sold to some kid who lived in LA. Kid got it stolen and posted on here or another website. He later recovered it somehow then sold it to a guy up north, from there I lost track of it.

I actually contacted this kid, because I had LoJack on the car so I wanted to give him the code.

Anyway, glad to see its not totalled or in bad shape. I loved that truck, had to sell it for financial reasons at the time.

How many miles are on it now? Do you have more pictures? If you ever think of parting with it, please let me know, I'd love to have it back if it became available again. I think I sold it with 52k miles on the clock, can't remember.

It's nice to hear from one of the previous owners!

I'm in the process of redoing the truck. I've done much much more than what you see above. I've taken a lot of picture so I'll post them eventually. There's nothing like a rust free CA truck! I do plan on selling it, but definitely when I'm finished with it. It has 74k miles.

Re: Typhoon #747 Revival

Wow, only 74k after I sold it ??? Must have sat for years, that's roughly 20-25k miles in only 13yrs.

I got a pm from the 4th owner, on this site back in 08 about how be bought it in Vegas, and on the way back to Vancouver WA, it died from a cracked block.

The third owner was that kid,

I tried contacting the 4th owner Stuart on Facebook and on a Grand National forum but he never responded. There was a shipping bill in the glovebox with his information on it when I got the truck. The truck was only driven around the block once or twice a month in the last 3-4 years. Hence the relatively low mileage.

Re: Typhoon #747 Revival

I spoke with an old owner "Buck" he's the one that did some performance mods to it. When it was stolen, a friend of his seen it driving around, contacted Buck and Buck called the police. Buck then drove to where it was parked only to see it driving the other way. He followed, and caught up with it parked in a driveway. Called the police again, and eventually got his truck back.
I went into some old paperwork I have, I purchased the stock wheels off this truck back in 2007.

Thanks for sharing the story. I love the look of the Grand Sport A-mold wheels it has now, but they don't do the truck any favors in terms of steering feel and tracking. I wish that I had those original wheels that you bought!

OThe mirrors received a fresh coat of Duplicolor trim paint. !

Is there a specific color (code) on the can of Duplicolor that is a match for (Syclone) mirrors? Would love to re-do mine. TIA

Thanks for the compliment!

Before the paint, I scuffed the mirrors thoroughly with Scotch pad:

Then 2-3 light coats of this Duplicolor primer:

Then another light scuff with Scotch pad and 3-4 of this Duplicolor paint:
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/we...ol-duplicolor_7141216-p?searchTerm=trim+paint

Make sure that you do light coats, and that the temperature is above 70 degrees.
