Re: Ty vs. Trailblazer SS

I saw one at the CA auto show in Anaheim last month. If I remember right, I think the lady there told me $32k 2wd and $36k for AWD. This one is 2wd. It has a class 3 hitch... this one can tow, boys.

I saw a TB SS at the GM auto show in motion in Orlando !

You didn't get to drive it at Auto Show in Motion? I went to that last year at Epcot and drove cars all day with 2 of my friends..... we beat them all day long and had the time of our lives...

I agree. Is the TB SS 2wd or Awd? Will they be serial numbered or "limited edition"? The Typhoon isn't dropping in value by the second/as soon as you leave the dealership with it.

the TBSS is offered in 2WD or AWD Id def go with the AWD for winter. although I doubt it would launch like the Ty. Def. Stick w/ th Ty

Would any of you guys trade a 80% finished Typhoon straight up for a TB SS? This deal has been made an option for me, under the following conditions:
1. I have to hold on to the TB until it's paid off
2. No modifications / funds to do so
3. I get rid of the Ty

So what it sounds like to me, your parent are going to sell/trade Typhoon and pay for TB SS to get the Ty out of the driveway. I would never trade my Sy towards a TB SS and still have payments. (I guess I would never buy a TB SS, they would lose too much value and don't really excite me.) I guess in terms of value, my Syclone is worth a lot more to me than someone is willing to pay for, so its not worth selling.

Obviously in terms of monetary gains, the TB SS is ahead of the game (atleast in your pocket) and it is nice to have a new car you don't have to work on. However, It would drive me up the wall to not tinker with something. For me its a hobby, it started in HS with my friends cars and I have been busy ever since. I would have to buy something else to play with...

Or maybe, they want their garage back (I've been using the whole thing for the Ty since '03) but you hit it on the head.

Agreed... I've been tinkering on cars / boats / motorcycles since I was about 8 and I'm not about to stop... I have concluded that the Ty is staying  ... need to represent up here in NH, right  ?

Re: Ty vs. Trailblazer SS

How much will a fabbed up e-brake kit set me back?

You will be glad you kept the Ty in the long run. If you didn't you would regret it everytime you see an SS with infant twins and a 2 y.o. in the back seat watching Barney on the flip down screen while bleach blonde mom is on her way to Neiman Marcus with the nanny not having a clue about the vehicle she is driving! BY the way, she was on the cell phone speaking to her best friend about nothing when she hit the curb with the 20" blings her husband wanted scraping the wheel in the process. Welcome to the National TB SS Club. She is the President.

Don't get me wrong. The vehicle is great and people should buy it. You just won't be unique.

Re: Ty vs. Trailblazer SS

when I had them done the brackets ran $115 shipped... I have next week off so I can fab some up, but I'll need to find the original buck first... think it's in my garage, but we'll see. How does that strike you?

Doing it this way, you need to add about 1' of cable to the original splitter thing.. I used some 1/8' insulated and some cable clamps... works good for me ... that is, unless you're going to swap the LS1 cable ends onto the syty cables, in which case you'd be all set

Re: Ty vs. Trailblazer SS

I'd do it under these circumstances.

-If I were just looking for an excuse to get out of a SyTy.

-If I were to sell the TB SS and buy another nicer Ty.

-If there was absolutely no doubt I liked the TB SS better.

Seeing as you're not sure, and your truck has sentimental history, I wouldn't do it. So I voted no. The Trailblazers just look to plain to me. The SS' plain sides make it look like a base model cheapy with a new front bumper and some blinging wheels. There definately should have been some cladding to break up the body lines. JMO.

Re: Ty vs. Trailblazer SS

As a person ready to get into a SyTy I must admit this discussion makes me worried.
I drove a TB for 2 years and although I never had problems and the I-6 is outstanding I just couldn't get over the substandard interior. It was NOT any nicer than a Ty's and it was 10 years younger.

I gather that owning a SyTy is a labor of love, but not necessarily a money pit (unless you're going for sub 11's). Am I right? Sorry to hear some of you guys wanting out. I just hope one of you wants out bad enough to give me a great deal when I'm ready to buy!!

when all is done, you are going to have the cleanest Ty in the world. That counts for something. Finish the project.

Yes..
And....this is the truck that was in the family from day 1...you will never get anything like that back again.
if it was just an avarage Ty, i would trade it... just for the $.
and buy another Ty.

This was my opinion in the begining... DECIDED: the Ty is gonna stick around  ... I don't think I'll ever be able to give it up

My thoughts exactly.

I mean im sure with 395 HP on tap the TB SS can move on down the road and show plenty of other cars the tailights, but compared to a 1 owner Ty, no way in Hell.

Re: Ty vs. Trailblazer SS

I drove one 2 weeks ago @ work. Our area GM rep got rid of his CTS-V, and got the TBSS. He wanted the detail department to clean it up for him, so I took the the chance to be the nice guy & take it back there for him. His was the 2wd, rosted them for a bit, not like a Vette & the torque curve seemed similar to a GTO. Handled like a dumb Envoy/TB. Kinda clumsy, didnt get to really open it up in the dealership parking lot.

Re: Ty vs. Trailblazer SS

Nope, I would keep the Ty. I personally think putting that 4 speed transmission in that Trailblazer is a shame. I have a regular trailblazer now, it basically has 2 speeds, 2nd topping out around 80 something. I realize the SS has a different rear end ratio but offering a 4 speed in this day and age really is ridiculous. I'm hoping next year they will bring over the new 6 speed tranny they are putting in the Vette's or even a manual tranny would be nice.
