Ty runs the same w/ a plug wire removed!

Im waiting on my datamaster cable, so I figured I would mess with the Ty somemore. Well I removed one wire from the dist. with the truck running and it didn't seem to make much of a difference. It actually smoothed out the idle a bit, but the throttle was not quite as responsive.

What does mean? It should run really bad, if at all, with a wire removed, right? I mean it made very little difference. I took each off one at a time, and it didn't matter which one was off.

I am going to try a new ignition system again (Summit wires, Accel Cap/rotor, new ignition module, irridum plugs). Hopefully it will help. Any other ideas?

did you do a compression check?
changed the plug, how did it look?
timing off?

Compression is good (140+ - 150 on all 6)

Timing is set at 0*, TDC has been checked.

All the plugs looked good. none were washed out.

what problems do you have, to check what you did?
just wondering, got a truck here with rich idle, idles like crap, and have the same thing happen when i pull 1 wire.
Datamaster doesn't show anything wierd

Ha sounds just like mine. :roll:

We took it inside a shop to have a couple other guys familar with SyTy's look it over and we hooked it up to a Snap-On scanner and couldn't come up with anything with that. They mentioned that they smelt lots of unburned gas. Also it has a miss at idle and in Neutral at idle it bounces all over the place.

I have tried everything else, so I am starting over again with the basics, and that is when I noticed that it runs the same with a wire off. So I am thinking it is getting a very weak spark to all cylendars, which isn't burning all the gas, is causing it to miss at idle, and have sluggish performance.

I'd rethink your choice of ignition components.

Don't waste your money on Iridiums for troubleshooting.
Don't use an Accel Cap & Rotor
I'd recommend Taylor wires over Summit.

Call Michael Hood @ Tucker - it'll probably be close to the same price (or cheaper).

I had the iridiums lying around.

I can get anything summit carries here in town. The retail store is 15 mins away.

they didn't have any taylors in stock.

Whats wrong w/ Accel?

Hay, Dr. Evil.

I finally got my Typhoon to idle smoothly. When I found my problem, boy did I feel like an idiot. I hooked up my laptop and was testing the IAC. I needed to change the vacuum to see how fast it would respond, if at all. So I pulled the vacuum off of my MAP. No change. Should be some change. I had replaced all of my vacuum lines a month ago and was pulling 18 pounds of vacuum. I pulled the plastic straw from the rubber elbow that goes to the MAP. Then the vacuum dropped and the IAC count started going up.

It seams that when I replaced my vacuum lines; I pushed the lines in too far and blocked the vacuum from the MAP sensor. I went around to all of the rest of the elbows to make sure that they weren’t blocked.

The truck started running smoother. No surging. Rather nice.

I still have the off idle hesitation but some of the other irritants are gone.

cool. Glad to hear you found at least one problem! I did that once too, but I realized it as soon as I started it up.

I replaced all my hard lines and elbows with sillicone vac line, so that can't be a problem w/ mine.

Well after a big ordeal trying to change the wires/cap/rotor/ignition module, it is back the way it was before I started. I found out what was wrong (very stupid mistake that cost me 3 hours of swapping parts around and two trips to Summit :roll: ) so now I get to put the new stuff back on for the 4th time. :rant:

The coil is an MSD Blaster, only been on for less than 1K.

I don't really know how I stumbled on this post, as I don't have the same problem or anything, but you should post up what you did to fix it, even if it is embarrassing.
