Ty died after 2-hour drive....won't start until it cools

Drove the Ty for 2+ hours on Sunday........the truck died while doing 50mph. Got it pulled on the shoulder and popped the hood.....nothing I can see wrong. Waited 15 minutes with hood open and then it fired right up! Drove it 5 miles and it went dead again.....this time it wouldn't crank. Had to have it towed home. Got it home and unloaded it from the flatbed.......and it fired right up!

No Check-Engine lights at all....nothing out of the ordinary.

Any ideas? Sounds like a sensor to me maybe? I'm not sure what to check first though.

Thanks for the help!

Oil pressure sensor?

We had a car here (non-SyTy) that was doing that. IIRC, it was a sensor, possibly the crank shaft sensor IIRC?

Stab it and steer it

Oil pressure sensor might cause it to quit but not to not crank. Z little gray cells are still cogitating, but I suspect a electrical fault. Or maybe 2. Starter won't crank because it's hot (but works fine when cool) and OP sensor. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge installed so you can watch? Also everything you're talking about goes through the key switch. Maybe a failure there of some kind? Do you have an alarm?

The no-crank part throws me... Maybe Don is onto something with the key-switch.

Pull the vac line off your FPR and tell me if it smells like gas.

Wait,I missed the no crank part. No crank is the purple wire that goes to the starter solenoid.Replace it from the loom above the brake booster with some 10 gauge wire.It is the thickest purple wire in the loom.

That is kind of a odd thing with it not even cranking. Something like that was happening to my neighbors vehicle. The problem on this vehicle ended up being a battery cable corroded and not making good enough contact sometimes. It was weird lights, radio, and horn would still work. But at times it would not turn over. May not be your problem. But does not cost anything to check.

When you state wont crank is there power at other places, like lights, radio, bla bla bla!! I had a similar issue and it was the wire harness behind alternator it has the fuseable link on it or a fuse i think its called a fuseable link anyway was loose and when i made a turn the truck died once i was driving straight started right up, hahah you never know.

My guess: Ignition module. The second time it died and wouldn't start perhaps you left it in gear. That makes more sense than anything else.
