The tranny breaker
Check fluid. Smell it. If it smells burned then do what Jimmy wrote..

Otherwise fill it up and adjust the Cable in the normal manner..

Good luck

I had the same problem with my tranny in my K1500. It turned out to be the TV valve was sticking therefore it takes more pressure to engage for shifting, especially into 2nd and 3rd. As for adjusting the TV cable, with the truck not running push the adjustment all the way in and then rotate the throttle bracket to WOT and it will pull the TV cable to its correct adjustment. Then drain the tranny and then start to pull the valve body out with the .020 spacer plate. Once you have all off the bolts loose slowly begin to lower it straight down try not to tip it there is a ball bearing sitting on the spacer. While lowering it you have to unhook to TV engaging bracket. NOTE: be very carefull not to loose any of the ball bearing that are in the valve body and there is one on top of the spacer that almost always rolls off, keep your eyes open. With the Valve body on your bench remove the Spacer plate, this would be a good time to take a pic so you know where all the BB's go. The TV valve is held in with a pin. Remove the pin and TV valve then clean the chamber and valve then reassemble. Just something to try before spending the money on a rebuild.
