I agree with john, the trans side of the cable most likely disconnected. You can reach up into the trans tunnel and remove the 10mm bolt holding the tv cable to transmission housing and verify it is still attatched to the TV valve.
ok, not disconnected. under normal driving the trans. shifts real soft & is hits OD about 42-43 MPH. when it shifts to 2nd. gear I mat it & does not down shift to first like it should. Getting zero clicks out of the TV. cable. Any ideas?
sounds now like the cable is stretched out (a lot ) for whatever reason. you can try shimming the end of the cable to make it shorter or cutting the tv link on the side of the VB.
if this fixes the problem then you can buy a new one or make your own out of a lokar cable.
you are pushing the center section of the adjuster to the drivers side and then opening the Throttle by hand with eng off?
Yes. Have did it 100+ times before with no problems.
Put another TV cable on still no change. Called RPM transmission were it came from & he walked me through A few things with no changes. Shimmed the end of the cable with 3 zip ties so it was maxed out at WOT. still no changes. I think it is something in the valve body or something. Not sure were to go from here. Going to call him again tomorrow. this sucks, nice out & can't drive it.
since you have done all this it's time to get a pressure gauge and see what it's really doing. the port is just above the propshaft.
with it hooked up you can see exactly what it's doing or not doing without having to drive it and you will get scientific answers.
sounds like the issue could be internal. a pressure gauge will tell the tale.
if you see pressures going up with TV and the trans still shifts soft then there is a problem on the inside and it's time for a R&R.
if you don't see a rise when you pull out on the cable with eng running then there is some type of issue with the tv plunger on the side of the VB.
are you getting a spring action whne you pull the cable? does it want to pull back?
Yes it wants to pull back. I noticed there are 2 bolts that hold the wire with the valve mechanism & if you loosen them the bracket will slide back & forth. ( seen it in A friends camaro with A 700R) so might have to adjust it.
Ok, put A gauge on the trans. today, seems to hold 250 psi. pretty good, in park it is 75 lbs. reverse was pretty low, like 120 psi. Any other ideas? still does not down shift when it hits 2nd. ??
so 250 at idle in park and 75 in reverse? I don't understand you numbers.
idle in park without cable pulled
idle in park with tv cable pulled
idle in D no pull on tv cable
idle in D with cable pulled
idle in rev with tv cable pulled
idle in rev without cable pulled
get me these and I can help you more. any way you look at it there seems to be some serious pressure loss inside the unit.
ok, took the tv valve plunger & spring out of the RPM trans. & my stock one. I noticed that the spring that was in the RPM trans. was about 4mm. smaller & weaker then the stock spring. RPM spring was all black & the stock one is pink ( the stiffer one) If I was to install the stiffer spring will the trans shift harder & at A higher RPM? the black spring was shifting at about 2,000 1,2nd & 3rd gear really fast OD was about 42mph.
the stiffer spring should make it shift at a higher rpm and more firmly if you don't have other problems.
This would mean that if the problem was this way from the very beginning then you could be onto something but if the problem just happened all of a sudden then no I don't believe this is your problem.
It looks like the rpm is a replacement but without having it in hand or knowing exactly what part# or mfg it is I have no idea if it could be a good stock replacement or not.
the very small difference in length of spring isn't a huge deal as a good tv cable setting would make up for this, it's the spring rate that could cause an issue.
