Turboing 4.3

I want to eventually turbo my 4.3 TBI in the future, probably a while from now. I just wanted to get an idea of how much engine work would need to be done. Obviously oil line, intake, and exhaust. I am thinking about only 8 lbs of boost, maybe about 12. How much would I need to lower the compression? Do I even need to bother with 8lbs? I guess switching to MPFI would be almost required? I could just use the manifold off a sy/ty right? Would I need any kind of piggyback for fuel? Would this work with Edelbrocks manifold and cams?

My goals
I don't want to go V8 (not with gas prices or weight). I like to do some off roading. I will get a dual stage boost controller. I want at least 200 hp, maybe 250 (at least with high boost). I want to be able to tow, not all the time but be able to.

Is this all possible? Any thoughts are appreciated.

you can get 200-250 HP N/A... the s series forums probably would have more info on that. Way to much work and expensive IMO to do what you want.

What about 300 to 350 hp. I am talking about when I get to the point where most people would look at V8 swaps.

Re: Turboing 4.3

the overall conclusion that is usally made around here when this question is asked every few months for the past 10 years is that by the time one was to go through the trouble of doing such a swap, they could probably pay for a syty. It isn't like its impossible and i'm not trying to discourage you, but its not common for a reason. Why do you think people do those v8 swaps?
Sseries forums would have much more info.
